Serious question- is there data available on hip replacement surgery by age and gender?

What about back surgery?
Are high heel shoes harmful period and even more so as we age?

I don't know, other than to say I've had 2. The first was in my early 60's and my second at 73. Women tend to need Vinca Dec 15 #1

them more than men, I think, because we have more bone loss as we age. Pelosi will be fine, even at 89. The surgeries have changed enormously, just in the short time between my surgeries. After the last one, I only spent a day in the hospital, used a walker for 3 days and a cane for a couple of weeks. I drove myself to my first post-op check-up and to all my physical therapy appointments. As for heels, I'm afraid I've never owned a pair more than 2" high and I got rid of those decades ago. Never could stand them. Comfort over style has always been my motto.

More women get hip (and knee) replacements, but the need is mainly due to arthritis and osteoporosis, the latter of which women are more prone to getting for various reasons. High heels could contribute to hip arthritis, but lots of other things can go into that, as well. That being said, high heels throw one's feet, knees, hips, and back out of whack. Prolonged wearing of them shortens one's calf muscles, if you don't stretch them out regularly. They're not good even for young women, let alone an 80-something.

There's also that "Men don't like to go to the doctor" thing going on here, too. So, it's not necessarily that women need joint replacements more. There's the element of them just being more willing to undergo the surgery.

It cured the back pain I had been suffering with my whole life. Took about a whole year to fully recover from the surgery.

I think the cause may have been uneven leg length. I was very active and athletic when younger. Hiked thousands of miles in all terrains.

Now I hike and walk 80 minutes daily.

Gave up heels many decades ago. Silly things, like men's obligatory neckties.
