Hakeem Jeffries: "Republicans talk in headlines and Democrats talk in fine print"

like the time I tried brainstorming a bit of counter-propaganda here and all the replies were way over-complicated.

Brian: "where was the disconnect there? We were willing to walk the walk, and yet it wasn't felt..."

Hakeem: "We definitely have to do a better job in communicating with the American people...part of the issue ... that we have had is that Republicans talk in headlines and Democrats talk in fine print"

Where's our marketing department? Where are our clever one-line retorts to trickle down economics, tax & spend democrats, clean skies & healthy forests, no child left behind & others? Where are our challenges to their claims of being the party of family values? Where are our charts showing dems actually handle the economy better?

George Lakoff, probably best known for his book Don't Think of an Elephant, wrote another book, Moral Politics where he delves into the different ways dem & repub leadership reach voters. Repubs go for emotions entirely & dems lean too much on logic. He wrote, dems think people will go to the platform page & read what the party stands for & what they want to achieve. Repubs OTOH, just come up with clever & usually deceptive phrases that appeal to emotion, with empty policy pages. Personally, I think our side is wrong. I think more people vote on emotion than logic. Even dem voters.

I think we have some real media talent in our younger gen though, & they're ready to get in the ring. And I want to make clear I think the Harris campaign did an excellent job, especially considering she had to put a presidential campaign together on the spot. Has any male candidate ever had to do what she did?

Also Biden and Harris did not do that.

Walz definitely is the opposite of that.

Unlike the Republican Party, the Democratic Party is very diverse with that comes differences.

Thank goodness, we are all not the same. What a boring world that must be. I can't imagine in my wildest dreams being a Reptilian.

Our party has no answer to the massive republican propaganda network. They own the radio, they own TV.

Republicans own the image and definition of the Democratic Party.

Are leaders need to fight better. They are trying to be politically correct but losing.

Im more upset at the Democratic Party than anyone else related to trump winning. Jamie Harrison cant retire soon enough.

A policy statement (or a rebuttal) should fit a TV commercial

.... the republicans lie every time they have a microphone available , and we Democrats try to counter their lie with facts. Facts which can often be confusing even for the experts.

The result is that our message doesn't get heard and is likely not understood, as the average maga voter probably reads at a seven-grade level or lower.

Years ago, I contributed to a book. When I sent my first draft, the editor quickly replied, stating that it was written at a post-high school level and that I would need to write it for the 6th to 7th-grade level. After several drafts and rewrites, my portion of the manuscript did make it to the final version.

The book was about a technical topic and never made it to the NYT's top 10 books for the year, so I'm not rich and living off the royalties.

It was a great experience..... a one-time experience.

And now, 30+ years later, the current reading level data has remained the same, between 6th and 7th grade.

Here is one source for adult reading levels.
