Candy, ice and lottery tickets have long been impulse items sold at checkouts in American grocery stores. Now bullets are joining the list of merchandise peddled to consumers as they exit at a growing number of stores around the country.
Dallas-based start-up American Rounds rolled its first automated retail ammo machine into a Fresh Value grocery store in Pell City, Alabama, late in 2023, selling various brands of rifle, shotgun and handgun ammo.
The company advertises its machines as a safer and more convenient way to buy ammo than at a large retail store or online. But public health experts have questioned whether the companys suicide prevention efforts are sufficient, and elected officials in areas where machines were set up have worried that the easy availability of ammunition could lead to impulsive purchases by people who seek to do harm.
If youre in the ammunition space
you have a social responsibility to make things as safe as possible while maintaining the integrity of the Second Amendment, American Rounds CEO Grant Magers told The Washington Post. We wanted to accomplish both.

Can someone explain to me why this isn't an absolutely fucking insane idea?

Imagine when an inventive 10 or 12 year old gets the ammunition from the dispensing machine and puts together a few home made bombs!
HOW MANY DEAD CHILDREN? No big deal, WE CAN FORCE THE WOMEN TO HAVE MORE, IF THEY WANT TO OR NOT!

And the explanation is that this country has gone insane this is yet another example, consistent with the madness that put Trump back in the WH.

(2,204 posts)Needs to be a valid government ID and the photo has to match you. The machines uses facial recognition to confirm the person in front of the machine matches the ID.
How well it works and how accurate it is, I have no idea though.

(49,221 posts)then my estate can sue both the vending machine business AND the store, e.g., Piggly Wiggly, Krogers, Albertsons, etc.
Plus, why not return cigarette vending machines and add vending machines for rubbers?
eppur_se_muova
(37,670 posts)A vending machine for rubbers can actually prevent tragedies. Many have. They used to put them in mens' restrooms; maybe someone has finally figured out that they should be in womens' as well. Particularly when they're stocked with products that feature ribs, ticklers, colors etc. -- let the ladies choose, and the free market will respond accordingly.
Vending machines for bullets ? A-OK in your family grocery ! Condom dispensers to prevent unwanted pregnancies and prevent spread of STDs ? Hide them in the back ! They're dirty ! Sinful !
So much hypocrisy in this society.

(9,900 posts)Because you don't like being proven wrong.
You are complaining about 19 yr olds and now 17 yrs olds but included an age range that includes up to 24 yrs old in a conversation about CHILDREN.
Also 17 yrs olds can only sign up that young with permission from a parent and they cannot actually take the oath and go to boot until they are 18.
