There is no fairly permanent "Democratic Policy Institute" like the GOP has with its Hoover Institute (which sucks)

I am reposting this as an OP, since I feel it's the answer (I hope) to many posts and also very important.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=19820919

So it varies and has gaps between elections.

https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=19819790

Leadership changes constantly. It's happening right now
Our past presidents and leaders have not maintained a "permanent" presence guiding and coordinating the battle, no doubt because they don't want to seem "partisan" in primaries.

Many days, my commute to work was past the Lexington Green.
The Red, White and Blue owe a lot to the rag-tag rebels who repelled the well-equipped and well-organized permanent army of redcoats.

The red hats aim to replace the Red, White and Blue with one of their own.

So here's the challenge for Democrats.

The GOP represents a tiny minority, 10% or even 1%, with all the money and a permanent interest group.

Democrats represent all the people, and that permanent interest group varies.

Unlike claims by the "every accusation is a confession" party, no permanent group controls the party.

And the populace is affected by the great lie machine. That's why the oligarchs bought almost all of it.

So there's the problem and question. Democracies are fragile.

What are you and I going to do about it?

There are some organizations that have steadfastly supported Democracy and Justice.
SPLC is one. And there are others, but nothing like the Oligarch Army of media, institutions (like Hoover, which sucks), and other groups that are a constant presence.

Republican party leadership since roughly the breakup of the USSR has remained mostly unchanged in its goal and "capo".

But who leads our way, above the usual primary fray?

Is there a new Dr. Martin Luther King?
An American Gandhi, Nelson Mandela or Desmond Tutu?
Howard Zinn, Benjamin Spock, Daniel Berrigan, and others outside the political races are gone.

These were all visionaries more than organizers. (it varies, of course)
The party of Putin has more or less permanent organizers and propagandists and a "rotating racist" as a candidate.
How convenient!

Who has the skill with people and organizing/managing?
We have several. Look at the enormous skills of the Clintons, Barack Obama and Joe Biden
"but the primaries".

We need a more or less "permanent" leadership not swayed nor blown up by primary battles.
Change all you want. There is no solid foundation to keep the pressure on.

Think about it.
And .................

1. Herbert Hoover had influence far outsize his failed Great Depression response

because he was a businessman, government leader, patriot, and wealthy Stanford U. alumnus.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Hoover

He failed all the entrance exams at Stanford except math. He made a lot of money, and setup a lot of conservative organizations, even after leaving office. There's even a link to the "Conservatism Portal" on wiki, in the article on Hoover.

Yes, Democrats are far behind, despite the wealth of FDR, our great ideas, our long series of successful presidents. Our philosophy is amorphous, our base changing, we can't seem to agree on enduring principles except in the broadest sense, and we try to win each election by building a coalition.

Yet there are liberal think tanks, and some middle of the road ones, even outside of Washington.

are the actual Halls of Acedemia in places like Princeton or Chicago or MIT, where real scholarship takes place to try to determine real world solutions.

As opposed to deciding on a solution (which is always to cut government spending and Tax Cuts) and then write bullshit papers to support them.

Brookings is the closest, which is independent and somewhat reliable.

Along with our own strictly liberal counterpart to Fox News and all the other battlefronts where the Trumpers reign unopposed.

I've got a strategic framework laid out in my head, but it will take Melon Husk levels of cash and at least a decade to implement. It's not in our usual nature to play the (really) long game; Dems keep betting all their chips every four years on hoping a damn near perfect presidential candidate can choose the damn near perfect running mate and run a damn near perfect campaign, with NO BACKUP PLAN whatsoever... This strategy is clearly no longer sustainable and Repubs now know how to fight through it...

We need to take a page from the GOP and fanatically dedicate ourselves to an agenda 20-30 years in the future even if we know we won't live to see completion. We must be unwavering in our endgame and keeping our eyes on the big picture. We'll have to understand that tiny unsatisfying bits of incremental progress is still progress in a 20-year plan... We'll have to resist the temptation to tear everything up and restart from square one every time there a setback or electoral loss...

My only questions now are

1. Who in the party do I take my proposals to?

2. Where's the money coming from to fund it?

3. Who in the party has the long-term vision to see it through?

It's all about WINNING, not BEING RIGHT.

Want proof? Nov 5, 2024.

LIES won, because they were blasted for many years.
Repeat a lie enough times .... you know the rest.

Think tanks are a little inside baseball. Political junkies might know them, but your average voter won't.

In that vein, Brookings and the Center for American Progress are exceedingly well-known entities within Democratic circles.

The only organizations I commonly hear mentioned by people who don't usually know about these things are the Federalist Society and the ACLU. Mainly because Supreme Court fights are so contentious and get a lot of publicity.

Compare to the propaganda mills with social media bots and visceral appeal.

They may be wonderful but they don't move the needle.

That's my concern.

I quote Ibram X. Kendi:
from the epilogue of "Stamped From the Beginning
https://democraticunderground.com/100216524810

The best, the ONLY cure to WhiteChristianNationalism, race baiting, mysogyny, etc. is WINNING

Protesting against racist power and succeeding can never be mistaken for seizing power. Any effective solution to eradicating American racism must involve Americans committed to antiracist policies seizing and maintaining power over institutions, neighborhoods, counties, states, nations—the world. It makes no sense to sit back and put the future in the hands of people committed to racist policies, or people who regularly sail with the wind of self-interest, toward racism today, toward antiracism tomorrow. An antiracist America can only be guaranteed if principled antiracists are in power, and then antiracist policies become the law of the land, and then antiracist ideas become the common sense of the people, and then the antiracist common sense of the people holds those antiracist leaders and policies accountable.

And that day is sure to come. No power lasts forever. There will come a time when Americans will realize that the only thing wrong with Black people is that they think something is wrong with Black people. There will come a time when racist ideas will no longer obstruct us from seeing the complete and utter abnormality of racial disparities. There will come a time when we will love humanity, when we will gain the courage to fight for an equitable society for our beloved humanity, knowing , intelligently, that when we fight for humanity, we are fighting for ourselves. There will come a time. Maybe, just maybe, that time is now.

Meanwhile, the GOP turned from a party that supported civil rights to one that brutally opposes civil rights.
Their STINK TANKS brainwashed them (starting with Lee Atwater's "Southern Strategy&quot into racist, white christian nationalists, loving Hitler and Putin.

ProPublica reported on this here:

https://www.propublica.org/article/inside-project-2025-secret-training-videos-trump-election

.... But Project 2025’s plan to train an army of political appointees who could battle against the so-called deep state government bureaucracy on behalf of a future Trump administration remains on track.

One centerpiece of that program is dozens of never-before-published videos created for Project 2025’s Presidential Administration Academy. The vast majority of these videos — 23 in all, totaling more than 14 hours of content — were provided to ProPublica and Documented by a person who had access to them.

There are many. Each aimed at different groups and levels... I don't think we (Dems) do this.

This is just some:
