The solitary life and crimes of Joseph Corcoran, who's set to be executed Dec. 18

Joseph Corcoran has lived a reclusive existence. The 49-year-old man has spent nearly half his life in one of the most solitary places in the state: Death Row at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City.

Barring a swift federal court ruling or a last-minute reprieve from Gov. Eric Holcomb, the convicted murderer will be executed before sunrise on Dec. 18, a week before Christmas.

Corcoran will be the first state prisoner to be put to death in Indiana since the state paused executions in 2009.

It's a fate that Corcoran, himself, has said he deserves — and has claimed to want.
