North Carolina joins states calling for a constitutional convention

https://ncnewsline.com/2024/12/17/north-carolina-joins-states-calling-for-a-constitutional-convention/

North Carolina legislators voted this month to ask Congress to call for convention of states to suggest changes to the U.S. Constitution. Some Republican legislators have been pushing to file an application for a constitutional convention for more than a decade.

North Carolina’s resolution is added to the pile of requests for a convention that other states have approved and sent to Congress. Congress must call a convention once 34 states ask for one.

EDIT: Common Cause says (via email):
"One underacknowledged result of the 2024 election is that the megadonors behind Article V now have a clear roadmap to get the remaining states to move forward with an Article V Constitutional Convention. Article V is championed by a faction of millionaire donors and political extremists who want to operate without guardrails to institute their right-wing agenda.

In this agenda is shredding First Amendment protections, gutting environmental regulations, rolling back civil rights advances, and enshrining far-right economics as permanent fiscal policy – which will gut Medicare, Medicaid, and other safety-net programs.

And the worst part? Six states stand between us and a disastrous Article V Constitutional Convention – an event unprecedented in U.S. history that could mean major constitutional chaos.

Just covered the wish list for them to shred that old document and make it 🍆🥔 friendly.
Hungary 2.0. The billionaires and trump are pulling off the most massive real estate purchase in the history of mankind. USA…..Sold!!!! You poor people get off their fucking lawn. No trespassing on their property. The country will be a huge plantation for white rich, and they will thump the Bible as they lash our backs with leather straps to work their fields for free.
All the Dems and Governor we just elected have been told to pound sand, we own you.
Robenson may as well have been appointed by his owners. And promised a place in the big house. Away from the commoners.
This state is racing to be Florida. We should have built a wall long ago.
More Florida tags here than NC.

Absolutely correct.
Most of the people that will take the biggest smack down will be his already raging cult, that have a massive amount of guns and weapons.
Imagine millions of J6 types, red faced, spewing spit of rage, that have everything destroyed, everything stolen from them by the billionaires. Those faces were burned into our memories as we saw it all unfold. This time, they will realize they have been made fools of and that attack will be on the suits with soft hands that will see street justice.
Talk about reuniting the country, when 90 percent of us have it all taken away by those thieving greedy assholes like Musk, gonna be some WOKE the fuck up reality. I can see lots of dragging into the streets of those smug pukes like Johnson, Miller and Bannon types.
The GQP has created a Monster of raging, heavily armed militias that will have nothing left to lose.
That will turn on them.

Wouldn’t mind moving from Florida to there myself to get away from this crazy state to a state a little less crazy.

2/3 of 50 states just about 32. That's too close for me to feel confident it won't pass with the help of, say, Fetterman or Manchin.

13. I had it backwards. It's 3/4 of states to ratify, that's 38 states.

An almost impossible threshold for any partisan amendment.

It’s 2/3 of both chambers when Congress proposes an amendment.

But even if they do, 3/4 of states aren’t going to ratify anything goofy.

They’re off fast!

Get rid of all those articles in the constitution that they don’t like. Shred the Bill of Rights and end voting rights.

You’ve done a great job, Putin!

Under no circumstances.

Even if it were likely we'd get a couple good things out of it, it's not worth the risk. They'll relegate us to lower class citizens at the mercy of hedge funds. Banking will become free-fall casinos. Laws irrelevant.
