Liz Cheney being proposed for FBI criminal investigation

Republicans released a report Tuesday reviewing the “failures and politicization” of the now-disbanded House Jan. 6 committee, capping their investigation by recommending a criminal investigation into former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.).

The 128-page interim report forwards many of the claims circulated by the GOP since the committee was organized, complaining the Jan. 6 select committee was improperly constituted and unfairly pinned blame on President-elect Trump.

The report’s conclusion also calls for an FBI investigation into Cheney, accusing her of witness tampering by being in touch with star witness Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide.

It’s a claim that if pursued would likely face significant roadblocks but that nonetheless comes as Trump has suggested members of the Jan. 6 panel should “go to jail” for their work.

I do not believe he is going after her for just revenge.

I think some of his actions are based on fear.

What threat does Liz Cheney pose to Trump?

And Trump may be afraid she could be a big rival if the GOP ever comes to its senses and decides
to be the old GOP.

(Rep. Barry Loudermilk R-Ga is referenced in Cheney's rebuttal):

Cheney on Tuesday delivered a detailed defense of her committee’s painstaking work, the 900-page Jan. 6 report released in December 2022, and said Loudermilk’s own report “disregards the truth.”

"January 6th showed Donald Trump for who he really is – a cruel and vindictive man who allowed violent attacks to continue against our Capitol and law enforcement officers while he watched television and refused for hours to instruct his supporters to stand down and leave,” Cheney said in a statement.

“Now, Chairman Loudermilk’s ‘Interim Report’ intentionally disregards the truth and the Select Committee’s tremendous weight of evidence, and instead fabricates lies and defamatory allegations in an attempt to cover up what Donald Trump did."

There's nothing Cheney can be charged with. Let the public see what they elected. Trump promising all these amazing things, and let the voter see MAGA waste time with petty and vengeful empty investigations.

tampered with witness Cassidy Hutchinson, is vile. In another report, Loudermilk calls Hutchinson's J6 testimony "debunked". Have yet to hear anything like that, and wonder where the proof is. Didn't see her book called out as inaccurate.
