But I am fully expecting to be dead within a year to six months.
Don't get me wrong, I want to live but once Elon Musk and Trump destroy the
Federal health system, and I am no longer getting Social Security and my Federal Pension I will be homeless. I don't expect my life saving
weekly use of the Dialysis machine will be available to me, just to the rich who will have their own, if they can afford it, and it will most likely be on some scrap pile, once the TRUMP administration makes this country only for Rich people and those who
haver to live from our governments handouts ...cause we are in a wheel chair and can't do much more than lick envelopes for a living, will all die, just like those who refused a covid shot.Makes me wonder now, why I got the shot in the first place. All those who survived covid, may not have much of a future if any to look forward to.
I have no family. I am on my own, and for once I am really feeling it, the depression of what's to come because a bunch of stupid fucking people wanted a KING instead of a President.

Ive enjoyed your post for years.
Second - due to the inherent incompetent of Trump (verified by his history) while I do feel moments of stress - I feel that Trump and party will implode. Trumps administration will overreach (especially with Musk and the other idiot running things) and there will be significant blowback. Plus, keep in mind that there are millions of people on SS/Medicare. While a number of Christian voters supported Trump, there are a lot more non-Christian and sane people that are on SS/Medicare that didnt support a Musk administration.
I was recently talking to my neighbor who voted for Trump (didnt tell me before) in 2016, and didnt vote for him this time, who is mad as hell over the Musk (Trump) administration and their plans. He even brought up the idea of a Civil War (hes in the reserves) if things continue along the path that the Rich Class envisions for us non-rich. The resistance is building even before the Trump-Musk administration is empowered legally.
So, LIVE my friend, we will survive this - LIVE to see America find itself.
Take care.

That anyone in this country should have reason to lose hope is a very real horror that we ignore or dismiss at our peril, especially given that those in control of "governing" have no compunction about placing profit over people. A hand extended in compassion costs us nothing, while a hand waving off in indifference costs us pieces of our own humanity.

(16,082 posts)having dealt with faceless indifferent bureaucrats for the last fifty years or so. There's really nothing quite like trying to explain that having to crawl because standing to walk isn't possible, only to be answered with "Don't any of your friends have a car you could ride in?" (That was a real conversation with a social services worker who insisted I needed to come in to fill out some papers.) There were many days when I just laid on the floor and cried.
Over the years there have been so many episodes of sparring with one office or another; and it doesn't help that we no longer have case workers, we have technicians -- and doesn't that speak volumes about how we are regarded.
I just spent the last two months in a bit of panic because one of the county nitwits decided that I really am not entitled to the status that was conferred by Social Security Disability more than thirty years ago; and that decision had a wide cascading effect across a number of benefit structures. The county had managed to lose my recertification documents (something for which this county is notorious) and it was up to me to fix it. I finally reached someone who agreed to send another packet for me to complete and resubmit; and I sent it via registered mail so that I some proof that they had received it. I've received nothing from the county, but a letter from Social Security confirmed that the error had been corrected and I would be immediately reimbursed. As my mother used to sigh, "Ye gods!"
Anyway, like you, I see no reason to credit the incoming administration with any humane inclination, they will be who they are. All this wordiness is just to let you know that someone in Colorado is thinking of you. And I very much wish I could do more.

I'm messed up when my insulin runs out after 24 hours or less and can't survive much longer than you without that medicine. As part of being buddist, we've already gotten lots of extra time from our treatments to worry about this excessively is a type of attachment. That dialisis center is in your city, your state will take it over immediately. The risk isn't as much Febuary, it will be one or more major disasters, we are about to go into a verious serious time with our sun. All the geopolitical chaos is another risk. Pandemics will be an issue too with his clowns. And our climate is tottering on instability where either an ice age could set in rapidly (12 years or less) or our warming could go runaway upto even as catrostropic as our oceans begin a long sort of boiling off and we loose most of our water. Just make sure you have your medicine and herb if you use it and try and enjoy however long you can.
For a hopeful track remember there are businesses that depend on your dialisis clinic, our wealthy might be insifferent about exactly how much money you get but they surely don't want millions dieing all in a short timeframe. Don't forget the serenity prayer only focus on what you can change.
Pema Chödrön, in her The Wisdom of No Escape: How to Love Yourself and Your World describes it as a story of a woman running away from tigers. She runs and runs and the tigers are getting closer and closer. When she comes to the edge of a cliff, she sees some vines there. She climbs down and holds on to the vines. Looking down, she sees that there are tigers below her as well. She then notices that a mouse is gnawing away at the vine to which she is clinging. She also sees a beautiful little bunch of strawberries close to her, growing out of a clump of grass, so she looks up and she looks down. She looks at the mouse. Then she just takes a strawberry, puts it in her mouth, and enjoys it thoroughly.
What Does this Parable Represent?
The tiger above may represent our past, our traumas and difficulties that, if not worked on and brought awareness about, canthreaten to ruin our lives with worry, fear, anxiety and even shame.
The tigers below may symbolize our future, and the constant speculations about the challenges we may face. As human beings, this is actually the predicament we all face: our death.
The story highlights our tendency to focus on the tigers of our lives. And most of us disregard the strawberries that are around in every moment.

(15,177 posts)I am an old man, Twain wrote in his declining years, and have known many troubles, most of which never happened.
In other words, keep yourself grounded in what is happening today. Horrible as it sounds at the moment, we're not certain how it will play out in the future. Undoubtedly, it won't be good, but don't let it be worse in your imagination than it already is. This is a variant of obeying in advance.
We don't know how this will all work out. Why, just today we saw 38 Republicans vote against what Mango Mussolini ordered them to support. Nothing about the incoming administration is set in stone, least of all our future.
So keep yourself focused on what is and don't let your imagination prey on what may be. For as the Nazarene succinctly phrased it, Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

(16 posts)Wow, this sounds really intense, and I can tell youre feeling a lot of fear and frustration right now. But honestly, this seems pretty over the top. The idea that everythingSocial Security, federal pensions, dialysis accessis going to vanish because of Musk or Trump is a huge leap. These systems are way too big and deeply ingrained to just disappear like that, even with political changes.
I get it, thoughwhen youre feeling isolated and uncertain, its easy to start imagining worst-case scenarios. But I think most people, regardless of who they support politically, wouldnt stand by and let the country collapse into a rich-only society. A lot of what youre worried about just doesnt line up with how things actually work, even during tough times.
It sounds like youre going through a lot right now, and its okay to feel overwhelmed. But maybe instead of focusing on all these what ifs, it could help to talk to someone or focus on small ways to take care of yourself. You dont have to face all of this alone.

The US government made a contract with us when they started taking part of every dollar we ever earned, that we would be supported when we retired or became unable to work. There are a lot of new posters and some of those I recognize from the old days. Just as I remember, when people are down, we don't look past them, we help them up, we never step over them, we tend to them. Through the darkest hours, we bring candles, many of them. We are a part of humanity, when humanity appears to be going over a cliff, that anchors them before those last final steps. Where others find fault, DU'ers fight injustice, see the future as being better and we stand tall during adversity.
I post on many platforms, have a radio show, I was at Occupy Boston freezing my ass off, I challenged authority and won. DU was instrumental throughout this process. It empowered me to be my best, and it has done the same for you.
Most people would not come forward as you have. This shows me a trust in DU that is well earned.
My circumstances have changed over the years as well. I lost my best friend, whom I met as a DU Moderator. I lost my brother, also a DU Moderator. I have never lost faith in my fellow citizens, even with the nightmare we may face. Compassion isn't a given, it is a virtue. Empathy is not a weakness, it is a strength.
Do not fear the future. There will be no cut to your benefits. Your strength is within you, I can see it, I can feel it. I can see strength throughout the DU Community, and it is headed your way.
I have returned to Nebraska, after twelve-plus years in Boston. I may be destitute in some of the amenities life offers, and my bones creak in the cold, but I am with my son, grandson, and my family at DU. It doesn't get any better than this.
