The hope being that increased economic activity, and taxes derived from that, will more than offset the subsidies. Unfortunately, in many cases, that's about as likely as offsetting professional sports stadium subsidies. In the end, it costs states and cities more than it returns.

Those jobs were never going to come back to the US. It was why we had the crash in 2007. But we still give those very profitable corporations our tax dollars.

It's a pipe dream to think if you give the richest grifters in the world huge tax payer funded subsidies, the grifters are going to make you a great society filled with jobs and thriving economic activity.

A breakdown of costs by category would give us a good idea of how much the MIC is profiting. The DoD budget may exist publicly. I just haven’t had time to search yet, but there’s a lot of waste.

The majority of Boeing's subsidies have nothing to do with their DoD production arm and all to do with keeping production in Everett. Blackmail. Kind of the point of the OP I think.

You see, our military kit works quite well. Russia's doesn't. China's is marginal but catching up. There's a cost to being reliable, militarily cutting edge and dominant. And given recent events, we certainly don't want to be NOT be reliable, cutting edge and dominant. We cut our military spending to virtually nothing WW1 to WW2. After that shortsighted disaster, we vowed never to do that again. But maybe we could simply soothe our advisories with kumbayas and woo instead and pray it works this time.

But I get it. Defense contractors are a cartoon "monolith" some love to beat on, while at the same time basking in the warm, safe, comfy bubble they help our military provide. Kind of hypocritical, really. And kind of old .

I went to the links in his reply to me. I couldn’t get into the Financial Times link because I have no subscription. The subsidy tracker lists subsidies and loans, state and federal. As you’ll see, the numbers are big!

Most reactions either lead to rage posts, I told you so posts or there's nothing I can do about it posts and then what's for dinner posts.

Elmo is certainly too stupid to use a nice pretty tool like this.

He's more interested in sowing discord and starting fires. He is almost as big of an idiot as 47.

If we all say no more tax breaks and no more subsidies, we can roll that back. If not, jobs will go to the places who still play by the old game.

Back and forth to his properties with all the SUV's and SS crew, I bet it is millions.
He should not have the option to travel at our expense.
How about the money spent as himself plays golf, charges the government for all the protection he receives.
AND: why is mar a lago considered his home when it is considered a private club?
What an incredible waste and the rest of us pay.
I bet we are now paying for Leon's travel too.
Makes me sick.

really spending. These are incentives given by local and state (mostly) to attract business, constructions, and jobs. It's also 2 1/2 decades total, peanuts in the scope of total budget spending. and for example, I'd much rather see Boeing get tax break incentives than see them get absorbed and lose the market to the French.
