1. A good zeroth order approximation (in engineering terms; it's good place to start)

When an engineering control system, such as for a Party leadership and members seeking to counter a Dangerous Menace, ... system is seeking reality and refining its definition of actual states encountered, then it starts with a zeroth order approximation, like which quadrant or octant to look in first. Then it makes another approximation, refined from the beginning, so called first order, and than that is refined and so on. Hopefully the precision is being refined by powers of ten each time.

3. I was clear, but let me be more clear how it applies:

The simplest assumption about the next four years is that they are going to be dark.

To go beyond that is to know that there will be bright spots and some victories and lots of resistance lighting up areas of darkness.

As to Party members and leaders, the Democratic Party is composed of its members and leaders. Anything like that is a system, almost an organism because it is so complex. The Party has to find its way through the darkness to help the American people. It has to sense what might be possible and where it should cut losses. To do so with any hope of success means get a better understanding of the realities it faces.

But darkness is the zeroth approximation for a description of what the party faces in the next four years.

Words like "approximation", "zeroth", "successive"?

Did you not get the reference that the Dangerous Menace is Vice President-elect tRump and the attacks on democracy?

Were the metaphors troubling you? Do you not see how engineering concepts can be applied to sociology and politics the same as biology and sociology can be applied to engineering?

Are STEM concepts and terms somehow abhorrent to you?
