A woman was pronounced dead after being found on fire inside a subway car in Brooklyn on Sunday morning, and the police said that criminality is suspected in the death.
Police officers responded just before 7:30 a.m. to a report of a woman on fire in the middle car of a stationary F train at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station, a spokesman for the New York Police Department said.
Emergency responders extinguished the fire and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, the spokesman said.
The investigation is ongoing and criminality is suspected, the spokesman said, noting that the womans death appeared to be a homicide. It was not clear how she caught fire.
The authorities were reviewing camera footage. The womans age and identity were not immediately released on Sunday.

Around 7:30 a.m., a man, who police believe is about 25 to 30 years old, approached the victim on the F train and intentionally set her on fire before fleeing the scene, NYPD Det. Austin Glickman told CNN.
Police officers conducting a routine patrol at the Stillwell Avenue subway station encountered the victim on fire inside a subway car, Glickman said.

Police are investigating the incident as a homicide and are actively looking for the suspect, a male who is about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, Glickman said. Identifying information about the victim is not yet available, according to police.

(46,771 posts)I think there had to have been some accelerant like alcohol (or something else) for the fire to be that intense.

I wouldn't be shocked if there wasn't even any malice involved, but rather he just saw a large quantity of flammable material and couldn't stop himself.
