Very long article covers all the blunders that led to this situation. I'll just quote from the end, because the magnitude of the problem depends on what happens next.
Does the name "RFK Jr." give you a warn feeling, or did you just pee your pants?
The rising number of cases not linked to farms signals a need for more testing in general. When patients are positive on a general flu test a common diagnostic that indicates human, swine, or bird flu clinics should probe more deeply, Nuzzo said.
The alternative is a wait-and-see approach in which the nation responds only after enormous damage to lives or businesses. This tack tends to rely on mass vaccination. But an effort analogous to Trumps Operation Warp Speed is not assured, and neither is rollout like that for the first COVID shots, given a rise in vaccine skepticism among Republican lawmakers.
Change may instead need to start from the bottom up on dairy farms, still the most common source of human infections, said Poulsen. He noticed a shift in attitudes among farmers at the Dairy Expo: Theyre starting to say, How do I save my dairy for the next generation? They recognize how severe this is, and that its not just going away.

(2,528 posts)...and make the state governors kiss his ass to get those supplies shipped, and force meatpacking plants to stay open so that the virus spreads, and...you get the picture. I called Covid the "free-market pandemic", because that's how we handled it under the Trump regime.

What is this movements purpose?
The Birds Aren't Real movement exists to spread awareness that the U.S. Government genocided over 12 Billion birds from 1959-2001, and replaced these birds with surveillance drone replicas, which still watch us every day. Once a preventative cause, our initial goal was to stop the forced extinction of real birds. Unfortunately this was unsuccessful, and the government has since replaced every living bird with robotic replicas. Now our movement's prerogative is to make everyone aware of this fact.
What is bird poop?
Bird poop was originally thought to be oil discharge from earlier bird drone models. After further research though, this was disproven. Bird poop irregularly falls on vehicles in large amounts. Recent studies show that 87% of Bird Poop in populated areas falls on peoples cars. Why is this? Confidential documents leaked in 2018 revealing that Bird Poop is actually a form of liquidated tracking apparatus. If you walk outside and notice some bird poop just happened to fall on your car, be aware that you are now being tracked by the United States Government. It is recommended you clean your car exterior regularly to avoid this.

No one blames Trump for Covid coming into the states. That was going to happen. It's the way he handed the situation after it was here that we take issue with.

Because Trump turned Covid into another front in the culture war, soon the MAGA chuds got in on the action as well. It wasn't long before his moronic followers created conspiracy theories about the vaccines (RFID chips, etc.) and refused to take them--even being fired from their health care jobs for their refusal...
If a vaccine has already been developed I say bring it on and cull the herd. Anyone too stupid to get vaccinated can just croak.

(29,233 posts)He can pee on your lettuce, and that presents its own problems but bird flu aint one of them. Youll get bird flu from the farm worker when he goes to the CVS to get some Robitussin and coughs/sneezes on you while you wait in line with your high blood pressure meds.

is that the looming immigration and deportation disaster will force agriculture workforce which need timely and intensive monitoring; will be less likely to report their symptoms under fear of repercussions due to their immigration status.
Coupled with the extreme distrust the overall farming industry has towards government intervention; and their known voting histories; this is another public health emergency unfolding before our eyes again.

Recently, state and federal health experts detecteMd the bird flu virus in milk samples from McAfee's farm.
And this week, the California Department of Public Health secured a voluntary recall for all Raw Milk and Cream products from his company.

And yes, pasteurization does work:

Mark McAfee hopes to become the chief advisor on raw milk in the next Trump Administration. The cofounder and CEO of Raw Farm, the countrys largest producer thats been at the center of raw milk recalls in California, said hes in discussion about the role and hoped to help Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a raw milk proponent whos been nominated as the next Secretary of Health and Human Services, set standards on raw milk that would ensure safe production, while allowing more distribution of it.
...
Its been a moment for the raw milk industry and for Fresno, California-based Raw Farm. First, Raw Farm recalled several batches of its milk and cream after testing by the California Department of Public Health found bird flu virus in samples of its milk. Then it shut its dairies while its herd is under quarantine. Over the past few weeks, the drumbeat of news about bird flu went from bad to worse, as the virus spread to cats and to people, with a child in California testing positive (from an unknown source) and a person in Louisiana being hospitalized with severe illness (likely exposed from a backyard flock). On December 18, with the California state agriculture department having found the virus in 645 dairy herds, California Governor Gavin Newsom declared an emergency.
Raw Farms family farmers arent backing down in their belief in the benefits of raw milk, which propelled the 100% family-owned business to sales of more than $30 million. With RFK Jr.s nomination, theyre hoping to sell a lot more. Raw Farms president Aaron McAfee, Marks 40-year-old son, said that he expected sales to reach $100 million within three years, and that he was already thinking about product expansions. One of our greatest value adds right now is that we specialize in making a product that everybody in the traditional industry says is impossible, Aaron McAfee said. Nobody believes you can do raw milk at scale.
Federal health regulators have warned repeatedly about the risks of raw milk, which have caused 2,645 illnesses and 228 hospitalizations between 1998 and 2018, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Its legal in some states, illegal in others and always illegal to transport it across state lines for human consumption. (Selling raw milk for pets across state lines is a different matter.) But California, where Raw Farm is based, is one of 15 states where retail sales are legal and something of a ground zero for the raw milk movement, which has brought together proponents of organic food who believe in its health benefits and conservatives who argue for their right to make their own choices without government interference. Food is medicine is ringing true to the customers, said Mark McAfee, who is also founder of the Raw Milk Institute and describes himself as a Bernie Sanders/Jill Stein Democrat. Our consumers are saying, Screw you, FDA, we want raw milk, he said.

There's money to be made, so screw public health - put the people who will profit the most in charge of it, and the regulations just disappear, like bid flu during pasteurization!

(14,621 posts)There, when kings will sit to feast,
They get their fill before they think
With poisoned meat and poisoned drink.
He gathered all the springs to birth
From the many-venomed earth;
First a little, thence to more,
He sampled all her killing store;
And easy, smiling, seasoned sound,
Sate the king when healths went round.
They put arsenic in his meat
And stared aghast to watch him eat;
They poured strychnine in his cup
And shook to see him drink it up:
They shook, they stared as white's their shirt:
Them it was their poison hurt.
I tell the tale that I heard told.
Mithridates, he died old.
