The president-elect caused a diplomatic firestorm during his first term when he said he wanted to purchase the territory.

Donald Trump called U.S. control of Greenland an absolute necessity in a post over five years since he first floated the idea of buying the island from Denmark.
If at first you dont succeed, try, try again.
President-elect Donald Trump apparently wants to make another play to take control of Greenlandan autonomous region of Denmark that by all accounts isnt for saleeven after a disastrous attempt during his first term created a diplomatic firestorm.
Trump announced his renewed interest in Greenland at the bottom of a Truth Social post Sunday which named PayPal co-founder and former Swedish Ambassador Ken Howery as his pick for ambassador to Denmark.
After touting Howerys credentials, Trump added: For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.

(33,166 posts)He's being kept out of the public eye, for the most part. And, when he's wheeled out, he's spewing nonsense, and slurring his words. Not to mention that he looks like shit, and getting worse by the day in that regard. I'm thinking it's not his "sinister stuff" that they're trying to hide. It's the mental deterioration.

I also think a lot of this is being fomented by the likes of Steven Miller, Steve Bannon or Roger Stone.

(33,166 posts)Being an attention whore is his M.O., and I can't help but believe that this is mostly rote behavior from what's left of his rotting brain. I don't think he has enough brain cells left to come up with new material. But, absolutely, nobody should be giving this oxygen.

(24,796 posts)As usual, Mr. Trump sees someone smaller and more vulnerable as fair game for bullying, in this case, Denmark.
I wonder what the NATO rules are regarding one member nation acting aggressively toward aother member nation.

(3,585 posts)Might think too the Greenlanders, and of the Kingdom of Denmark to which it belongs, might know that too and set prices accordingly. Guess Trump thinks he is dealing with some aborigines that don't know the value of the land and what is beneath it.

(3,913 posts)I was wondering what you would call that number, Trillions? No! It is worse:
$384,344,402,876,433,280,921,599.99
Sets of 3 zeros Past 1,000 Name Number of Zeros
1 million 6 (1,000,000)
2 billion 9 (1,000,000,000)
3 trillion 12 (1,000,000,000,000)
4 quadrillion 15 (1,000,000,000,000,000)
5 quintillion 18 (1,000,000,000,000,000,000)
6 sextillion 21 (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000)
7 septillion 24 (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000)
8 octillion 27 (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000)
9 nonillion 30 (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000)
10 decillion 33 (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000)
Outside the US, one billion is actually a Thousand Million. Mil Millón in Latin America. This makes the US definitions of anything higher than one million unrecognized in the rest of the world.

(5,179 posts)"1,000,000,000, i.e. one thousand million, or 109 (ten to the ninth power), as defined on the short scale. This is now the most common sense of the word in all varieties of English; it has long been established in American English and has since become common in Britain and other English-speaking countries as well."
Add Canada to the list BTW.
Celerity
(46,866 posts)(equalling one thousand million for both). Now in the UK a billion means the same as a US billion.
In Sweden 1,000,000,000,000 (ie a trillion in US/UK English) is called en biljon, ie one million million (en miljon miljoner).
All that said, most Swedes, due the very heavy saturation of English here, do know what a billion and a trillion mean.

(102,693 posts)While he was mayor of London, Boris Johnson wrote a column for the 3 March 2013 edition of The Telegraph in which he described the "dead cat" as a piece of Australian political strategy about what to do in a situation in which the argument is being lost and "the facts are overwhelmingly against you".
There is one thing that is absolutely certain about throwing a dead cat on the dining room table and I don't mean that people will be outraged, alarmed, disgusted. That is true, but irrelevant. The key point, says my Australian friend, is that everyone will shout, "Jeez, mate, theres a dead cat on the table!" In other words, they will be talking about the dead cat the thing you want them to talk about and they will not be talking about the issue that has been causing you so much grief.
Johnson employed the Australian Lynton Crosby as his campaign manager during the 2008 and 2012 London mayoral elections, leading to press speculation that he was the "Australian friend" in the story.

(6,477 posts)in SomewhereVille Arizanska wants to offer Trump a nice safe place to rest, along with the other terminally confused cashed up Napoleon types of the world.
No expense will be spared to make him feel at home.
He will have a 10 room suite all to himself, some rooms done up to look familiar, the Oval Office, his rooms at Mara-Largo, his penthouse in NY.
Unlimited diet coke and hambergers. Just pick up the red phone.
He will be surrounded by people who vaguely look like people he knows and trusts.
All outgoing calls will be intercepted locally and answered by voice actors.
Want Greenland and the Panama Canal to be yours? Want wars to stop? Just pick up the green phone. Consider it done!
He can wander the extensive gardens surrounded by 10 nervous looking bulky blokes wearing aviator sunnies.
Rent set at $5M per day.
An offer you can't refuse. Seriously Donald, what is not to like?
