Israel is demolishing northern Gaza and fortifying military positions, imagery shows

Israel is carrying out mass demolitions and erecting military fortifications in residential areas of northern Gaza where tens of thousands of Palestinians have been forced to flee their homes, according to satellite imagery, verified videos and interviews.

The Israel Defense Forces said it launched an Oct. 5 air and ground assault in the northernmost parts of Gaza — Jabalya, Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun — to oust Hamas militants who had regrouped there and that the operation would “continue as long as necessary.”

More than 100,000 Palestinians have been driven from the affected areas over the last 11 weeks, according to the United Nations, leaving an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 people — less than an eighth of the prewar population. Hardly any aid has reached the area since the beginning of October due to Israeli restrictions, humanitarian groups say, and experts warn that famine may have already taken hold in some places.

As areas are emptied of Palestinians, Israeli forces have demolished entire neighborhoods, established military fortifications and built new roads, according to a Washington Post analysis of high-resolution satellite images. The visual evidence shows almost half of Jabalya refugee camp was demolished or cleared between Oct. 14 and Dec. 15, connecting a preexisting road in the west to an expanded vehicle track in the east — carving out a military axis that stretches from the sea to the border fence with Israel.

They are taking it over and nobody is going to stop them.

So what's that called again?

An entire fucking country was left to beg on the Internet in order to survive. If the history books of the future don't talk about this as one of the biggest shames in our existence as a species we have truly failed.

Injustice?

Evil?

So many choice words... I could go on...

Disgusting and I'll leave it at that.

I bet it does. Otherwise why else would IDF clear the area to build military fortifications and not, say, invite Kushner to build his hotels there?

And why would Hamas militants want to regroup in the areas they want to see Gazan civilians to return to and don't want to see military fortifications in, just one mile away from Israel's border?

Must be just a weird and totally unrelated coincidence that is not deserving of WP's attention or concern.

I mean, it has been pretty obvious for over a year now that that was Bibi's intention once the war started. I understand they didn't want to annex formally before the USA election, so drumpf could use the war against Harris, but there doesn't seem to be any reason to deny it anymore........

unless maybe he's afraid if he does so, the Congress might pass some sort of resolution against Bibi which Biden might sign, so he has to wait until drumpf is sworn in formally?

I don't think so...

That's a bridge way too far.

Nothing will happen. It hasn't for 14 months and likely not even in 14 years. Palestinians have no friends in high places. No lobby. No goodwill. No protection. They are just pawns in regional and global geopolitics. Trampled under for the benefit of powerful nations and our ally, "the only democracy in the middle east" with "the most moral army in the world".

It's been allowed to go on for 76 years, that's the problem.

with an expansionist land grab...

But don't worry, the Arab-American Trumpers up in Dearborn said Donnie will fix it.... But just in case, they might want to clear out the guest room for their relatives who won't have homes anymore.

Coincidentally, so did I! And I've been very vocal about it for 14 months. But I don't recall you speaking up about it until after the election. Now you bring up Arab Americans at every chance. As if they are solely responsible for Trump's win. They are not. Isn't that scapegoating?

After the election, I left twitter for good and came back -- So I doubt you'll find many posts from me between circa 2015 and November 2024 😅

As far as I'm concerned, anybody who didn't support Harris is a sworn enemy and I'll treat them as such. They did what they felt they had to do and now I'm doing what I have to do. Elections have consequences.

Before I left DU the first time I was already speaking out about the genocides in Syria and the Uighurs in China (which is still happening but since it's not on the news every night it's not a sexy enough political cause for the left). On Twitter I was speaking out about the genocide in Darfur... That's three human rights atrocities with death tolls many times higher than Gaza, and I hope they also get their proper attention on DU...

As for how I would have voted if I saw my people getting slaughtered, well I sure as hell wouldn't be voting for the Nazi madman dictator who would make things much, much worse... Especially after Netanyahu personally visited him in Florida to cut a side deal where he almost certainly promised not to agree to any ceasefire or hostage exchange until after January 20... But that's just me...

Like I said before, they made their principled choices and now I'm making mine. Business, not personal.

Now that's a lifetime of commitment to displaced civilians and starving children!

Because we all know nothing like that ever happened to anyone before 14 months ago. Certainly valid grounds to criticize someone who only became vocal 11 months later...

After the historical handshake with Yasser Arafat on 13 Sep 1993, Labor Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin said on behalf of the Israeli people:

"We who have fought against you, the Palestinians, we say to you today, in a loud and a clear voice; Enough of blood and tears. Enough!"

Now President Bill Clinton and the entire world are watching this horror show in Gaza.

And poor President Jimmy Carter is hearing Trumpf talk about re-taking the Panama Canal.
