Are Americans ready to accept that under Trump we may now be the bad guys?

Bluesky post by Seth Abramson.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, especially with Trump publicly threatening Canada, Mexico, Panama, Denmark, NATO, the EU—basically anyone he can find besides the actual enemies of the United States.

Don't forget that Joe McCarthy hauled into Congress artists, writers, actors, etc. to threaten them with blacklisting and potentially imprisonment for not "cooperating" with his committee and Roy Cohn. Even President Eisenhower was careful not to get McCarthy mad at him.

Results: No work for those whose names appeared in Red Channels. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Channels

These victims were branded as "Communists" for dissenting against American Fascism in the Thirties. (The American Communist Party published its approval of the dissent, making the McCarthy victims seem tied to communism.)

It COULD happen again. What if your employer were advised that you hate Trump and MAGA? And if you weren't fired, there could be a boycott against your store or business?

A recent opinion pice that has been online for several days proclaims that “The Democratic brand is in the toilet.” I’m sure headlines like that please our future dictator.

America has gone over to the dark side and many are celebrating the hate and cruelty. What they are too stupid to realize is that they are the ones in the crosshairs. They will be hurt so badly by his reckless and probably illegal immigrant removal programs and the farmers will get hurt the worst when they have no more workers and their crops rot and prices skyrocket for everything because of assholes hate for the common person.

Not sure how quickly he can replace military leadership with loyalists, but unless he does, It is doubtful he can... invade Greenland.

13. Actually the American notion of "Good guys" vs "Bad guys" needs to die.

It was heavily abused in the Iraq War for example - If Saddam Hussein was bad (torture chambers, etc), we must be the good guys, right!?

The US has been different levels of shitty since its inception. Sometimes we were really shitty, like with the Iraq War, but, so was the other side. That made it ok in our morality system.

A look at our foreign policy since the early twentieth century shows that, while the 19th century was marked by territorial expansion. Trump now wants to go full authoritarian dictator, in the style of Putin, Hitler, and Napoleon.

15. A good portion

A good portion of people in this country are both intellectually AND morally deficient and won't care. Those are the Magat turds. Some are just lazy and apathetic, no life goals, aimless fast food inhalers , these are the non voters.

I used to have high hopes for this country, the first time I saw him and his clown makeup, ill-fitted suits and loud mouth, I was like "who the fuck will vote for this clown?" I thought he would just be relegated to the third party sidelines as a joke, as with many of these types, then the media kept encouraging him, that is when I knew this country had become morally empty.

They voted not just once, but twice for him, they could have picked any other Republican but they chose this criminal. Where else in the world does that occur? That tells you just what kind of country this place is.

Still, there is still a large faction who gets it, and many of them are found in government, I hope they add guard rails against the crook and his henchmen.

I know what the US Constitution says. I read it often. It gives me pause.

It is those who refuse to acknowledge what is says who are the ENEMY.
