CNN is hopelessly broken.
1. This "expansion" would require military invasions of several allies in violation of international law.
2. It would violate several treaties.
3. The Louisiana Purchase was the sale of land by a colonial power (France). These are sovereign nations.

(2,130 posts)and in particular anyone there calling themselves journalists or high school graduates, even.
It is scary to have a major network lending credulity to these ridiculous ambitions much less comparing them to a major success in US history. Bad enough that anyone believes that, but worse it will embolden Trump. We need to make sure the country and the world not only push back, but ridicule him for such ideas.
We are in the fight of our lives. You don't give up when EVERYTHING depends on it. You figure out how to win.

(2,130 posts)but no one consulted the real inhabitants of the land.
But still portrayed by moset as a positive step in American history (besides Trump's idea of a great real estate deal). Invading countries won't be seen in the same light today despite CNN's general ignorance of history and modern sensibilities.

(12,985 posts)since they were clamoring for Clinton's impeachment for non impeachable offenses to improve their ratings. CNN is now controlled by rightwing billionaires beholden to the bribing class. Reject CNN.
They started going sideways after Pox News came on the air and took some of their audience. CNN's response was to lurch right. This managerial mistake caused them to lose moderate and left leaning viewers. Their ratings cratered, and they haven't recovered.

(2,130 posts)But then I have to pull myself out since we really don't know what's going to happen.
Then I come back to: All the intelligence and experience with democracy in this country can't be for nothing. The oligarchs and the MAGATs are idiots. Dictators do fall. Trump has dementia and we don't know if the cult transfers. If he implements a fraction of what he says he wants to do even his supporters will be up in arms.
If it has to get this bad for the pendulum to swing back, maybe this is the price we must pay for getting out of the recent logjam.
I'm not underestimating the price we must pay--pretty worried about that. But I have to hope there's an end to it.

(5,557 posts)That's what worries me. Add to that a society of morons with machine guns and things don't look like they will be changing for the good.
MadameButterfly
(2,130 posts)That doesn't mean I'm not plenty worried about what we have to go through before things turn around, and I'm well aware the other side has a lot of guns.
I dream of people learning their lesson and getting out of this mess without too much pain. I hope if there is destruction, suffering, and even civil war that we come out of it with a society more committed to positive change. The place I just can't go is the hopelessness of a permanent dictatorship and irreversible environmental damage.

(1,109 posts)when they made it so obvious that W was their candidate no matter what. The progressive media also failed in 2000 because they were busy helping Nader spread his big lie that their were no differences between Al Gore and W. Does the progressive media really think that Al Gore would've appointed Alito and Roberts to the SCOTUS? What a different world we would now live in had we had an honest media in 2000 and a majority on the SCOTUS in 2000 who believed that we the people should decide who occupies the White House. There would be no Nazi dictator being sworn in on 1/20/25.
