Right now, there have been four impeachments of the US president. Half of those are Trump.
Assuming Democrats can regain control of Congress in 2026, and assuming Trump acts as he did last time, he'll represent a solid majority of them.
Not saying Democrats should just look for a reason to impeach him. I'm saying there will almost certainly be a reason.

(4,565 posts)I hope not because if they succeeded, creepy crazy eyes JD would be president.
Sure, orange thing is diabolical. Also creepy.
We see it.
Vance is also diabolical, but much creepier.
And by the time orange thing is impeached, Vance will be nuts from having to bow down to it.
And the stench.
He will snap.

(3,219 posts)Sure, there will be some crime that House Democrats could file Articles of Impeachment for. But there is no way that the Reichwing douchebags in the Senate will ever allow their Orange Jeebus to be convicted and expelled from office. If Cantaloupe Caligula the Corpulent even thought there was a remote chance of his conviction in the Senate, hed unleash his seditious followers on whomever he thought was going to stab him in the back. The threat of that alone, would keep most Senate Repukes in line.

(65,204 posts)It takes a 2/3 majority in the senate to convict, and as much as I want Democrats to regain control of that body in 2026, it won't be a veto-proof majority.

(2,346 posts)In an ideal world, Harris would have won the election. Ain't happening now. Given a choice between two odious individuals, I'd still prefer Vance by a wide margin, for several reasons.
* Vance is not a malignant narcissist. He is, when you get right down to it, a fairly typical, overpriviledged conservative politician, but one that has not been steeping in the stew of hatred, gloating, and vindictiveness that Trump has. We've had a lot better as president, but we've also had worse, even discounting Trump.
* Vance does not command the power over MAGAts that Trump does, and it is very likely he never will That's a good thing. Right now, Trump can only do what he's doing because he is feeding the Nazi engine.
* Vance is relatively young, fairly intelligent, and considerably more open to new concepts than Trump is. Is he Machiavellian? Yeah, probably. What he's not is a vindictive, completely amoral mob boss.
* I'm not really sure that Trump learned all that much as president the first time around. If you look at intelligence as being at least in part adaptability, Trump is not a very intelligent man - he is doing many of the same things this time around that he did the last time, but this time, we know his tells and signals a whole lot better. Low intelligence people often thrive because they are tenacious, doing the same thing repeatedly even when it doesn't seem to work, while people that are more intelligent usually step back and re-evaluate.
* Is Vance creepy? That is a judgment call. Is he more creepy than Matt Goetz or MTG? No. Trump? Not even close.
I'm not saying that I think Vance would make a great president. I just think that, if Trump were to keel over tomorrow, I think that Vance would not be even remotely as bad.

(109 posts)As much as I loathe Trump, I must admit he is his own man. No one can control him. Everything I've seen about Vance suggests he is a willing stooge. If he is President he will likely do the bidding of the wealthy elite like Musk.
Honestly, if I were a religious man I would pray for the health of Donald Trump. JD Vance scares me.
