So here we are with 4 years gone and

it is instructive to consider a post from the "DU Past". Apologies to Mr. Dickens who seems thought of by so many people today as that "old guy" who wrote "long stuff" that "took too much time to read". This OP from the past shows we have very talented, educated people here on the DU and their observations from then are very instructive for us to revisit.

When Scrooge asked the Ghost of Christmas Past if he meant "Long Past" the Ghost replied "No. Your Past." So it is for us. Some people think of the warnings and analogies to the Nazi rise as just things we read in books or see old newsreels of. No. It is our past and what we did or didn't do then to resist haunts us still and challenges us to either repeat the past or not.
