They crashed into a forest in the dead of night. The majority of them survived.
Like this one, those at the back survived.

(2,647 posts)I had several reasons...
1. They usually let you on first if you were in the back row and I always found overhead space
2. I didn't mind sitting there for 15 minutes watching all the rats rush, push and shove trying to get off the plane like it was on fire or something.
3. Back when I flew (there were still ashtrays it was MD30's, 737's, 757's Airbus A-19/20's sometimes a 320 but most of those had a stewards cabin and a restroom in the back. If the steward was "friendly" I'd slip them a 20 and once we were at serving altitude I'd just turn around with my hand and money out and they could hand me a couple vodkas, I didn't have to wait for them to come along. I think it was the 737 200 or 300's you were literally in arms reach of where they set and they'd just hand them to me lol. I was always courteous and also a friendly drunk. I got schnockered on most of the cross country flights lol. (always had a driver waiting)
4. I'm an airplane nerd and when you set in the back you could "feel" everything the plane was doing, especially rudder corrections by the pilot kicking the ass end left and right when landing in some strong crosswinds. loved that lol.
5. I always heard you had the best chance to survive in case of a crash if you set in the back (maybe maybe not ). Anyway I always figured I'd be the last one to die
(not making fun of this tragedy, there's nothing funny about it)

(278,812 posts)I used to love the 727 with the back step that was part of the plane. I always thought Id escape that way.

(11,552 posts)Looks like shrapnel damage in the tail severed hydraulics/control link leaving the pilots with only throttles to control the plane, like JAL Flight 123.
