Over the holidays an Oberlin student told us about Ohio's new "bathroom law." Not only are people required to use the bathroom of their birth sex, BUT entities are forbidden to even have "gender neutral" bathrooms!! Not just state institutions/schools, but private schools like liberal Oberlin. They've communicated with the student body that they will adhere to the law. I hope this communication was sort of wink wink. What the f****???????????????
Edit: Apparently gender neutral bathrooms are not prohibited. See replies #25 and #28. So I would ask why places like Oberlin don't just make all, or almost all, of their bathrooms gender neutral.

(36,439 posts)Remember how they refused to wear a mask and deliberately coughed in our faces. Go to the mens room, girls, go to the ladies room, men.
This is what the right wing does they make up rules they have no idea how to enforce. Are they going to stand at the bathroom door and check birth certificates?

(8,767 posts)Unless schools and other entities are willing to spend the money to double the number of such bathrooms, they will soon find themselves in violation of the ADA.
Finding an accessible bathroom is hard enough as it is, this will only make it much worse.

(46,766 posts)"The law requires people at Ohio K-12 schools and universities use the restroom that aligns with their gender assigned at birth. It also bans students from sharing overnight accommodations with people of the opposite sex from their assigned sex at birth at K-12 schools.
This does not prevent a school from having single-occupancy facilities and does not apply to someone helping a person with a disability or a child younger than 10 years old being assisted by a parent, guardian or family member."
