Low Income trump Voters Entering the FO Stage

From low-income voters who supported Donald Trump last month, a plea to the president-elect: don’t cut our benefits.

Trump has frequently made grand promises to protect Social Security, Medicare and other benefits. But with a growing list of billionaires on his cabinet, a vow to quell spending and a slim Republican coalition in Congress consisting of some anti-spending hawks, his voters aren’t so sure.

Pennsylvania Trump voter Lori Mosura described the billionaire as “more attuned to the needs of everyone instead of just the rich” in an interview with the Washington Post. She lives below the poverty line, receiving $1,200 a month in food stamps and Social Security benefits.

But she has a message for Trump.

“We helped get you in office; please take care of us,” Mosura said, shifting the conversation as though she were speaking to Trump. “Please don’t cut the things that help the most vulnerable.”

Some Trump voters who rely on benefits, like Steve Tillia, who receives $1900 in social security and food stamp payments, are more optimistic about cuts to the departments that help them make ends meet.

“It’s not cutting government programs, it’s cutting the amount of people needed to run a program,” Tillia told the Post. “They are cutting staff, which could actually increase the amount of the programs that we get.”

Meanwhile, local Republican officials are begging the incoming Trump administration to leave benefits alone. New Castle City Administrator Chris Frye told the Post he expected some benefits tweaks at a federal level, but hoped they wouldn’t be catastrophic.

“I think it would be stupid to just take something away… we would have mass chaos. Mass homelessness,” Frye told the Post. “Nationally, I don’t think it is going to be a situation where they are taking away from people.”

Some are worried, some are still in the denial stage. They were gullible enough to vote the orange malignancy back in. Excuse me for not giving a rat's ass about them.

If that's true, then there are a ton of people who don't understand the difference between government & business & why you don't run your government like a business. Some things should never be done for profit.

I know a lot of repubs think Roe v Wade was the beginning of the downfall of America but IMO it was when we put "In God we Trust" on our money. Am I the only one who finds that hysterically ironic? When your religion states that love of money is the root of all evil but you print "In God we Trust" on your money, I gotta wonder, who is your god? 💵💵💵

What a fucking myth. Like being private can overcome human incompetence & greed. Sure business can & some of them do, but it's no guarantee just cuz they're private. Government, same thing. I always figured at least we can control who runs the government but unless you're a shareholder you have no say in who runs a company. Sadly, that horse is out of the barn, now. Equating money with speech, opening our electoral process to rivers of cash, it's hard to see a way back from that, when the very people who can change it also benefit from it.

The price of eggs and chicken (not to mention lots of other things) are going to go sky high if we don't get control of avian flu, and Bob Kennedy shows little interest in regulating the dairy farms that are the biggest driver of this new epidemic.

Thu Dec 26, 2024, 04:29 PM

1) Dairy and poultry growers are facing another year of avian flu. Prices will likely rise but that won't mean higher profits.

2) Trump has signaled more oil and gas drilling. This likely means an end to ethanol mandates and subsidies. These subsidies are essentially a corn subsidy that also supports cattle through byproduct distribution. The result could be devastating to farmers in places like Iowa.

3) Proposed tariffs would likely blow back on American ag exports, such as pork shipped to China.

He got your votes, and he doesn't need you any more.
He's got billionaires lining up to help him line their pockets with even more money than they have now, and they'll do that by seeing to it that he is well compensated for his efforts.
He'll want them to help him stay in power indefinitely, and they'll do that for him.
