At least 10 Jewish homes and businesses around Paris and a synagogue in the northern French city of Rouen have been defaced, according to police, with antisemitism being considered as a motive.
The acts of vandalism came as France marked 10 years since the Paris terrorist attacks that shook the country. Twelve people were killed at the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo and five people were killed in the subsequent antisemitic attacks on a kosher supermarket in January 2015.
Buildings in the Parisian suburbs of Vincennes, Saint-Mandé and Fontenay-sous-Bois, many located near the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket where the attacks took place a decade ago, were affected on Sunday and Monday, police said. A rabbis home and a synagogue in Rouen were also targeted with antisemitic messages and swastikas scrawled on the buildings.

The Jewish community represents less than 1% of the population, and is the victim of 57% of all anti-religious attacks, Retailleau told French media Tuesday.

Ten years ago today....
On 9 January 2015, Amedy Coulibaly, armed with a submachine gun, an assault rifle, and two Tokarev pistols, entered and attacked a Hypercacher kosher supermarket in Porte de Vincennes in Paris, France. There, Coulibaly murdered four Jewish hostages and held fifteen other hostages during a siege in which he demanded that the perpetrators of the Charlie Hebdo shooting, the Kouachi brothers, not be harmed. The siege ended when police stormed the supermarket, killing Coulibaly. The Charlie Hebdo shooting had taken place just days earlier, as did the Dammartin-en-Goële hostage crisis, in which the two Charlie Hebdo gunmen were cornered.
On 16 December 2020, 14 accomplices to both the Jewish supermarket attack and the Charlie Hebdo shooting, including Coulibaly's former partner Hayat Boumeddiene, were convicted.[4] At that time, three of the accomplices, including Bouddiene, had not been captured and were tried in absentia.[4]
Hostage-taking
On 9 January 2015, Amedy Coulibaly, who had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State,[5] attacked the people in a Hypercacher kosher food supermarket at Porte de Vincennes in east Paris. He killed four people, all of whom were Jewish,[6][7][8] and took several hostages.[9][10] Some media outlets claimed he had a female accomplice, speculated initially to be his common-law wife, Hayat Boumeddiene.[11]
Coulibaly was later confirmed to be the gunman in a shooting in Montrouge the previous day. In that shooting he killed a municipal police officer, Clarissa Jean-Philippe.[3]

(17,637 posts)1. So disgusting, and terrifying too.
I think the shock of seeing this type of graffiti is more pronounced now precisely because extremist groups are growing closer and closer to the thrones of power. It never loses its shock value, at least for me.
This means the 10th year anniversary of the attack on the Bataclan Theater is coming up later this year. I didn't know until moments ago that there was an antisemitic nexus there too:
The Bataclan theatre had been threatened a number of times because of its support for Jewish organizations and Israel.[41] Two Jewish brothers, Pascal and Joël Laloux,[42][43] owned the Bataclan for more than 40 years before selling it in September 2015.[44] In 2011, a group calling itself Army of Islam told French security services they had planned an attack on the Bataclan because its owners were Jewish.[41][45][46][47]

It's getting worse. No wonder my grandmother (may her memory be a blessing) said Jews should live with a suitcase packed.

Seems like Anti-Semitism is on the rise.

This is so sick. It is upsetting to read. But I thank you for posting it. It is important that we are aware that this is going on.
