My theory as to why Trump, in his simplistic little mind, is openly lusting for fantasies of taking over Canada

Total Square Miles of United States: 3,809,525
Total Square Miles of Canada: 3,855,103

Total Square Miles of Canada and United States combined: 7,664,628

Adding Greenland at 836,330 would bring that number to 8,500,958

Total Square Miles of Russia (currently the largest country on earth in terms of landmass): 6,592,850

As a real estate man, Trump is obsessed with size. The bigger, the better. The biggest, the best. Remember how he bragged on 9-11 about how his building was supposedly the tallest in Lower Manhattan?

In his simple little lizard brain, being President over the largest country on earth would be another boost for his ego.

Plus it allows him to keep up with the Putins, so to speak. Give him some extra bragging rights in that club.

Mind you, I seriously doubt it will ever happen. Hopefully it won't, at least.

But he's a simple, predictable guy, and I have to wonder if this is what's driving him--at least in part.

The US has very small access to the expanding shipping lanes in the Arctic. Those shipping lanes are open for longer periods due to climate change. Russia has the majority, then Canada, and then Greenland. The Navy has been preparing to defend US interests in those shipping lanes even though our access is limited and previous agreements have recognized Russia as primary.

It is not just shipping lanes that are so valuable, but the possibility of oil drilling. Note that Norway is the wealthiest country in the world, per capita due to their oil drilling.

If you look at the map on page 2 of this "Arctic Blueprint" you can see why Greenland and Canada would be in the way of the US desire for oil profits. It makes me wonder if the dumpster will get a cut.

A lot of smart ones, too.

But Trump falls into the former category.

He doesn't give a shit about this country or our resources. I don't believe his obsession is based on any type of strategical thinking. We're taking about an untreated narcissist who knows he's going to die soon.

So the OP theory could be true or anything else that will stroke tRump's immediate egotistical needs.
