You can thank the NC Republicans for the Republican House majority

Now that all of the elections have been certified, the Republicans have a 220 - 215 advantage in the House. This is actually a 3-seat advantage, since a swing of 3 seats would give the majority to the Democrats.

In 2022, the NC Supreme Court had a Democratic majority, and that court ruled that partisan gerrymandering violated the NC State constitution. The Republicans had to re-draw the lines, and in doing so, that resulted in a 7-7 split in our House delegation. That split was fair and fitting for NC, an evenly-divided state.

Unfortunately, in that same election, two Republicans knocked out two Democrats on the state Supreme Court, taking us from 4-3 Democratic to 5 - 2 Republican. When the new Republican majority were seated on the court, they went back and re-visited the issue, and overturned the previous ruling, even though there was no new case argued before them (I still can't figure that one out). Isn't that the definition of "judicial activism," which Republicans supposedly hate??

As a result of that ruling, the Republicans in the General Assembly re-drew the maps in 2024, resulting in our current 10 - 4 Republican majority. So they essentially GAVE 3 seats (and therefore the majority) to the Republicans in the US House.

I absolutely LOATHE those NC Republicans in the General Assembly. They have gerrymandered their own seats to give themselves a supermajority of 60% in both houses, even though they have never won a statewide election with 60% of the vote. It is completely undemocratic and unfair.
