'Highly abnormal': CNN legal expert flags 'huge loophole' in Epstein law Trump signed

Robert Davis
November 19, 2025 9:10PM ET

Honig discussed the loopholes on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360."

"All of this is highly abnormal," Honig said. "In a regular case, DOJ would never just open up its files like this."

"One really important thing I want people to understand, though, is that there's a huge loophole in the law itself that President Trump just signed and that says that DOJ does not have to make public any materials relating to ongoing criminal investigations," he continued.

"And what that means is it's going to be up to Pam Bondi, Todd Blanche, and Kash Patel," he added. "If they want to say, 'Well, that relates to some ongoing investigation,' it will be redacted or it will be left out, and we will not see that."

6. The rub isnt what it seems tho: lets say, trump orders an investigation

Into any dem they find in there, that's protected and can't be released. It ALSO means, that anything NOT being investigated, is fair game.

Meaning (as I understand it), unless Pam is willing to state publicly that Trump himself is under current investigation, there's no other way to protect him.

How long do you think that charade will last?

8. Because people constantly shit on Democrats, which means people don't vote for Democrats, which means...

...Republicans were elected and given complete control of the federal government, which means Republicans were the ones writing the bill and needed no help or input whatsoever from Democrats.

There is no "outmanuevered" here.

Once again, there is this strange belief that only Democrats have agency and that Democrats are the ones responsible for protecting us against the Republicans we, the people, elected.

If you want Democrats to save us, elect Democrats.

Isn't it standard to not release things related to ongoing investigations? I don't understand why this is a "giant loophole".

9. The story is the COVERUP

It actually doesn't matter if they play games and don't release certain names or situations-the point is the American people are catching on to the coverup and that is what is propelling us in the polls right now. As a matter of fact, if they play games now that only helps us even more.
