President Donald Trump attacked The New York Times in a new Truth Social post on Tuesday night, suggesting the paper's reporting on his health may be "seditious" and that reporters for the outlet may have committed treason.

Trump issued the screed after he delivered a speech in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, that was supposed to focus on affordability, but meandered through old talking points about immigration and the wonderful job his cabinet secretaries are doing.
In the post, Trump claimed he is the hardest-working president in history and that his "results are among the best."....
After all of the work I have done with Medical Exams, Cognitive Exams, and everything else, I actually believe its seditious, perhaps even treasonous, for The New York Times, and others, to consistently do FAKE reports in order to libel and demean 'THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES,'" he added. "They are true Enemies of the People, and we should do something about it. They have inaccurately reported on all of my Election Results and, in fact, were forced to apologize on much of what they wrote."
"The best thing that could happen to this Country would be if The New York Times would cease publication because they are a horrible, biased, and untruthful 'source' of information," he continued.
Trump's health has been called into question recently after the president admitted to taking a cognitive test and getting an MRI. Some psychological experts suggested that Trump may be experiencing early signs of dementia.
Other medical experts have pointed to the bandage on his hand and the swelling of his ankles as evidence of his physical decline.

(128,649 posts)in which the Treason Act of 1351 defined the offense of treason thus: "A man doth compass or imagine the death of our lord the King, or of our Lady his Queen, or of their eldest child and heir." In other words, just thinking about the king's death was considered to be treason. The ultimate act of lèse-majesté! I might be in trouble.

After all of the work I have done with Medical Exams, Cognitive Exams, and everything else, I actually believe its seditious, perhaps even treasonous, for The New York Times, and others, to consistently do FAKE reports in order to libel and demean THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, Trump said in a nearly 500-word post on Truth Social late Tuesday.
Trumps swipe at the Times comes after it reported last month that the President has apparently cut back on domestic travel and public appearances. The report also mentioned Trumps apparent dozing off during an event at the White House (and the Times reported earlier this month that he appeared to fall asleep again during a Cabinet meeting).
After the initial Times report was published, Trump attacked one of the reporters, Katie Rogers, calling her ugly on Truth Social.
Trumps Dec. 9 Truth Social post comes after hes undergone multiple health screenings, including recently an MRI that the White House described as preventive. .....
In a statement to TIME, a spokesperson for the Times said, Americans deserve in-depth reporting and regular updates about the health of the leaders they elect. Mr. Trump welcomed our reporting on the age and fitness of his predecessors; we're applying the same journalistic scrutiny to his vitality. The spokesperson also defended the Times reporting, saying that it was heavily sourced and was based on interviews with people close to the President and with medical experts. We wont be deterred by false and inflammatory language that distorts the role of a free press," the spokesperson added.
Its not the first time Trump has suggested the Times was acting treasonously. In 2018, the President used the same term after the paper published an anonymous op-ed by an official who claimed to be part of an anti-Trump resistance movement in the Administration. Trump earlier this year directed an investigation into Miles Taylor, who had identified himself as the author.

This week, the president took this ongoing offensive in an unsettling direction. As Time magazine summarized:
Donald Trump will be the oldest U.S. President in history by the time he leaves office if he serves out his full second term, and while he nicknamed his predecessor Joe Biden as Sleepy and amplified questions about his declining fitness for office, Trump now says that reports about his own aging are seditious, perhaps even treasonous.
That might sound like a wild exaggeration, but its entirely accurate.
On Tuesday night, after delivering an economic speech in which the president encouraged Americans to settle for less, Trump published a hysterical 487-word rant to his social media platform that was disturbing, even for him......
But Im also struck by the broader context: Two weeks ago, the Times published a report on the Republicans effort to project round-the-clock energy, virility and physical stamina, which is starting to give way to an awkward new reality. From the article:
Mr. Trump, 79, is the oldest person to be elected to the presidency, and he is aging. Nearly a year into his second term, Americans see Mr. Trump less than they used to, according to a New York Times analysis of his schedule. Mr. Trump has fewer public events on his schedule and is traveling domestically much less than he did by this point during his first year in office, in 2017, although he is taking more foreign trips. He also keeps a shorter public schedule than he used to. Most of his public appearances fall between noon and 5 p.m., on average.
In the days that followed, the president appeared to fall asleep in a variety of official settings.
This is, to put it lightly, an unusually sensitive subject for Trump, and given his online harangue, it seems the Times touched a nerve.
