If we have a 2028 election, I truly believe, Democrats need to run a non-politician for president, someone who doesn't know shit about Washington is fine and dandy with me.
Presidents Obama and Biden were super presidents who failed to hold Republicans accountable for their crimes.
We need to send a message to Americans, all Americans, those who vote or who don't vote, that our new president will restore justice for all, billionaires and undocumented workers will be treated equally.
I have list of candidates I would like to see run as Democrats, I don't even know if they are Democrats?
Miles Taylor
Sally Yeates
Letitia James
Malcolm Nance
Any former Military officer, former FBI, Former intelligence agent, former prosecutor, former judge, anyone who was terminated by, attacked by, forced to resign by Krasnov,, I am eager to donate and vote for.
Our system is broken, it will take extraordinary measures to fix it.

she speaks up from time to time, but by and large, shes still more of a follower than a leader. its a problem i have w most of the formerly military candidates. unless they were high ranking, they follow.

(8,662 posts)The president isnt going to be able to fix any of that shit - they wont have the necessary expertise to tackle HHS, DOJ, the military, Treasury, Dept of State etc.
By necessity EVERYTHING is going to have to be delegated to teams of experienced professionals.
Future Dem president will need to be the countrys frontman on the order of Zelensky in order to rebuild any semblance of a relationship internationally. Were going to need a trustworthy person whos massively talented at cultivating trust.
Thats probably not a politician

Give the purse strings back to Congress. Add 4 justices to the Supreme Court.
Have a government that works for the people and not a government that enriches the president and his cronies.
Have some serious campaign finance reform, limit campaigns to 4 or 5 months.
Crack down on lobbyists and insider trading.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, look how far we have fallen, Jimmy Carter had to put his peanut farm in a trust.
Crack down on cyber-currency.

I absolutely believe that those are the best people to run, it's time to think outside the box.

(21,792 posts)I am in favor of a candidate with proven progressive leadership and legislative skills, not somebody whose name has been in the news because Trump fired them, or who is known primarily as a clickbait merchant.
Dems need a fearless, non-geriatric progressive who knows how to govern.
None of the names on your list fit the bill, and none of the characteristics you mentioned are either essential or acceptable for a candidate who can win as well as govern.
gab13by13
(30,934 posts)wait for a couple of years to revisit it.
Krasnov has zero idea how to govern but he certainly accomplished more evil in one year than anyone else in our history. Krasnov is just the front man for the destruction of our democracy.
Someone like Malcolm Nance could do the reverse of what Krasnov did.
You have to admit that Magats are better at messaging than Democrats and the people who I merely suggested would definitely have no problem with messaging.

(30,934 posts)the dismantling of our democracy is widespread and serious and it is going to take extraordinary means to reverse the damage done.
I am only opining that it may take someone who is fearless and knows how to fight back against the evil that has befallen us.
I like Newsom, I like his memes and pushback against Krasnov, but it will take more once the full-fledged death threats hit him. I also like Pritzker.
It is going to be an uphill battle to take back what the billionaires have stolen from our country.
calguy
(6,039 posts)Newsom and Pritzker would both be excellent candidates. While I love what Newsom has been doing as of late, Pritzker would be my pick, simply because he is from a midwestern state. No offense to California, I loved living there for 35 years, but theres a too far liberal tag placed on it by too many voters in swing states we need to win. It would hurt Newsoms chances in a general election, a chance Id be unwilling to take if it were all up to me.

(600 posts)Folks who have been a part of the system that got us to this point are unlikely to inspire my support.
That rules out your initial categories.
Former military, intelligence, FBI, prosecutors, and judges have been powerful participants in the system and have f⁷ailed to challenge the implicit corruption that has characterized our government for years.
As a previous poster stated, getting fired by Trump is not enough.
My ideal candidate would be more like Eugene Debs, Clarence Darrow or Thomas Paine.

(6,875 posts)Yes, he's a politician now, but he's someone who wouldn't let the "play by the rules" establishment get in his way.
He's someone who would be willing to take necessary risks, and be unconventional in order to make sure things got done. There wouldn't be any fear of "looking political," and he wouldn't appoint anyone like Merrick Garland to make excuses, drag feet and not accomplish a damn thing.
He'd make the senate drop that damn filibuster to pack this supreme court and he'd bust heads who didn't go along with it.

(28,606 posts)Belief that politicians (both sides) are corrupt (except one's favs who somehow aren't really politicians or part of the establishment or elites even though they may have been in politics for decades and depend on fundraising just like other politicians) -- only the incorruptible outsider is pure of heart and brave enough to conquer the evil establishment status quo and pull swords out of rocks.

(11,398 posts)quotation along the lines of, "so long we we keep voting for what we don't want, we'll keep getting it."
Voting for the lesser evil seemed to me like the best strategy for a long time, and in the short run I believe it is; but in the long run, I believe it's led to a race to the bottom, since each candidate need only seem a tiny bit better and/or a tiny bit more electable than the others in order to end up in the final race.
In the longer run, voting for the primary candidate whose platform and record are actually closest to what we want helps to push the party and the Overton Window in the direction we want.
