"Federal agents arrest citizen observer watching ICE detain neighbors on her north Minneapolis block"

A 55-year-old woman who is an American citizen was arrested early Tuesday after confronting ICE officers over the arrests of three of her neighbors in the Willard-Hay neighborhood of north Minneapolis. She appears to be the first observer arrested by federal law enforcement officers since the agency launched an immigration surge in the Twin Cities last Monday.

/snip

Susan Tincher was awakened a little before 6:30 a.m. by alerts on her phone that an ICE arrest was happening in her neighborhood. She walked over alone and asked one of the officers across the street from the home that was being raided if they were ICE. She said the officer told her to “get back.” Tincher refused, and said multiple agents approached her.

“Pretty soon they were throwing me on the ground and handcuffing me and putting me in their unmarked truck,” Tincher said, estimating that the whole interaction just took a few seconds. “There were other watchers, who were asking me what my name was and everything, so I identified myself to them, then I started yelling, ‘Help!’ because I was being kidnapped.”

Tincher said she’s even more motivated after her arrest to volunteer to support immigrants in her community.

There was so much more I wanted to share. They cut off her wedding ring, while she was in custody.

. . . to refer to each ICE agent, personally, in his face, as "trash." Here are some things to say to them -- one at a time, point at the one you are talking at:

"You are trash. Just trash."

"I know why you work for ICA -- because you made C's and D's in high school."

"Why don't you get a real job?"

She wasn't just a "citizen observer." She confronted them.

When I first read the headline, I thought, " Wtf, they're arresting people just for WATCHING them now?" But that's not what happened at all.

She showed a lot of courage, but I'm glad there was someone else there to record and preserve this on video.

Especially with ANY youtube video, but also a lot of "print" type outfits. Major pubs like WaPo and NYT and mags like the Atlantic & New Yorker & Mother Jones are all usually pretty reliable but the competition for eyeballs has just become so fierce that everyone seems to be trying to out-hype each other, to the point where I consider a headline to be little better than a "clue" as to the content. And it makes me sad

A small group of these thugs is going to try this stunt in a neighborhood in an area with a high percentage of gun ownership, and find themselves surrounded by nineteen armed and very angry neighbors from the local crime watch, maybe including an off duty cop or two (who has already called for backup). The ICE cubes will then be told to produce some ID, snd when they can’t, get their masks, weapons and vehicles confiscated, and stuck in a too-small holding cell of a local jail, cuffed to the point where their wrist circulation is impaired, and their bladders are protesting. Phone calls allowed when they are ready to say who the hell they are, and what they were doing coming armed and unannounced into their neighborhood.

It’s a scene I’d love to hear about, anyway.
