You know I had heard that she sent a letter out to CBS News about needing to win back public trust. But only just now having read a snippet of it do I realize how awful she is.
Heres a piece:

Can you believe her???? More legwork??? Can you imagine this idiot with no experience running a newsroom walks into your studio. She kills a story critical of the administration. And not only does she do that but when she does so, she implies that you are LAZY??? That you did a bad job researching and investigating??? That you should have done more legwork.
Weiss is downright evil.

(57,468 posts)She needs to specify exactly what part of the story was so not "comprehensive and fair" that she ordered the whole story yanked off air just hours before airtime, for the first time in 60 Minutes history.

(57,468 posts)We can't keep letting these conservative media heads get away with making "fairness" pronouncements to cover up for their obedience to Trump's unconstitutional demands. We can't keep letting Trump decide what gets aired in the US. Our freedom depends on it.
She needs to be brought before the American people for her complicity in Trump's efforts to destroy the 1st Amendment.
Granted, we don't have the majority in either house, but that should change soon, especially if we don't display the defeatist attitude you are suggesting.
All of these media heads need to be hauled before the House once Jeffries is Speaker.
MyOwnPeace
(17,441 posts)but THIS congress wont do it! If anything, they, and at tRumps suggestion, the DOJ will investigate what Democrats should be held responsible for that show not airing.

What's next? "We can do this the easy way or the hard way"?
SunSeeker
(57,468 posts)If Trump is blatantly violating the 1st Amendment by telling a broadcast network what they can air, and the network is acquiescing, don't you think we should get that in front of Congress?
reACTIONary
(6,960 posts).... and demanding explanations and justifications for their editorial judgement is nothing more than a form of intimidation and punishment. You can't protect free speech by violating it. Pretending to do so is nothing but a sham.
SunSeeker
(57,468 posts)We are not "demanding explanations and justifications for their editorial judgement." There is no "intimidation and punishment" by Congress against CBS. Rather we are trying to determine if Trump is intimidating and punishing networks for running stories critical of him.
Investigating free speech violations by Trump is not itself a free speech violation. If we can't investigate free speech violations, then we will not have free speech. The 1st Amendment does not enforce itself.
reACTIONary
(6,960 posts)... get HIM to testify before congress
If you call a news organization before an investigative committee and demand an explanation regarding their editorial judgement, YOU are committing a free speech violation. The editorial judgment of a news organization is none of congress's business.
SunSeeker
(57,468 posts)He can ignore a subpoena and suffer no criminal consequences.
But we can subpoena Bari Weiss. She has no immunity, outside of a Trump pardon. Congress has a right and duty to know if she conspired with Trump to bury the Cecot story, overruling a team of seasoned journalists and helping Trump violate their 1st Amendment rights. Inquiries of CBS personnel is the only way to determine if Trump violated the 1st Amendment with regard to the Cecot story.
This conversation has become a dead end. You think investigating 1st Amendment violations is a 1st Amendment violation itself. I don't. You think any investigation into the actions of a network is meddling in "editorial judgment." I don't. We'll have to leave it at that so as not to waste each other's time. Good night.

(8,306 posts)Where are the WAG, SAG and IATSE?
There once was a boss with a pen
Who lectured the newsroom again:
Do legwork, she said,
From a very tall head
To staff whod been working since ten.
Bari spoke of public trust with a smile,
While pausing a story a while.
Be fair, was the call,
As she stopped it all
A lesson in ironys style.
She urged them to dig and to grind,
Seek truths that were hidden or blind,
Yet somehow that zeal
Took a sudden conceal
When the topic crossed powers red line.
Unexpected! she chimed from above,
Tell stories the audiencell love.
But unexpected, it seemed,
Was when journalists dreamed
Of scrutiny aimed up, not of.
So the staff did more legwork, no doubt,
While wondering what thats about:
When years in the field
Are so quickly unsealed
By memos that talk, not report.

(76,740 posts)WEISS is repeating the Chris LICHT fracas at CNN (confusing "freedom of speech with the political right" see quote below) - is holding "town halls" first with Erika KIRK who has nothing unknown or thought provoking to say and next with a static panel of talking heads with an outdated Top-Down authoritarian format seen everywhere on cable forever. The "now" is interactive, equality of the audience with the pretend pundits, and not subservient to official networks, cherrypicking topics and outlets. WEISS is taking the "new" out of the news, besides the worst part of collaborating with the Power, meaning not speaking truth to it.

.... Right now, the majority of Americans say they do not trust the press. It isnt because theyre crazy, Weiss wrote, adding, To win back their trust we have to work hard.
Weiss listed off ways that 60 Minutes coverage can restore that trust. She added, No amount of outrage whether from activist organizations or the White House will derail us. We are not out to score points with one side of the political spectrum or to win followers on social media. We are out to inform the American public and to get the story right.
Restoring the integrity of the news is a difficult task, Weiss wrote. We cant think of a more important one.
Weiss ended the memo, Merry Christmas and thank you, especially to everyone who is working over this holiday. ....

(13,702 posts)I'll cut her slack until I start to see what direction CBS takes. And it won't just be one story.
I have no issue with the story being leaked. Apparently the leaker, to the best of my knowledge, had the legal right to leak it.
Still, I would rather have seen the story extended per the boss. I for one don't care if people feel like they've been insulted. People whining that they feel insulted is one pernicious way that objective, hard-hitting, factual journalism is censored..
