More on woman killed by stray bullet she survived 5 bouts with cancer.------,
Police identified the person responsible as Cody Wayne Adams, 33, and said he was using Glock .45-caliber handgun he bought for himself as a Christmas gift when one of his bullets struck Phelps.
Deputies said they canvassed the area and discovered Adams' property lacked a suitable backstop for shooting.
Investigators recovered spent shell casings and a broken ceramic tile near the target, which they believe may have altered the bullet's trajectory.
Adams admitted to firing about 20 rounds using two magazines of Winchester .45-caliber ammunition according to the affidavit.
He told deputies he had been firing toward a Red Bull can on the ground, per the charging documents.
When Adams was informed his shooting may have caused Phelps' death, he 'became visibly upset and began to cry,' and told officers he was 'sorry,' according to the affidavit.

(28,447 posts)Is his not being alive, after murdering someone, not good enough?
For Chrissakes, HE lived. SHE didn't.
Remind me again why guns are so wonderful and why we should all have one, or several.

(36 posts)I was at a CCW class in Phoenix and the instructor made a point that every round you fire has a lawyer attached to it. It is a such a waste to have any firearm and treat it like a toy. His life has been ruined(idiot), the poor woman's family killed by this moron life has been forever ruined.

(26,206 posts)ETA: To be clear, I don't think a person should die for their political beliefs. But there's a lot of sentiment on this board that Trump supporters can go ahead and die for their choices. So I'm just putting that out there so people can see what that looks like.

(28,447 posts)I frequently post that those who voted for the face-eating tiger and are now surprised that the tiger has eaten their face, deserve zero sympathy. Zero. The face-eating tiger and the bullet don't give a flying fuck who you are, or who you voted for.
I truly believe that all gun should be confiscated. If you hunt, you can own appropriate guns but they are kept safely somewhere other than during hunting season. When you've made the kill (I know, killing other mammals is such fun) the gun get put away.
And don't try to convince me that you need a gun because you live in an unsafe neighborhood, or way out in the country. Move.
I'm not going to bother to try to look up the statistics, but some large percentage of gun deaths are various "accident."
How about when a mom carries a gun in her purse, young child grabs it, shoots and kills someone. I sincerely hope that the mom in such cases is perfectly happy her kid murdered someone.

This is a fundamental rule at outdoor ranges. Bullets can skip off hard objects in the ground and fly off in unpredictable directions. Anybody who doesn't know this shouldn't be handling firearms.

(24,693 posts)They usually start drinking mid-afternoon then have dinner around 5:30-6:00. After dinner, they go in the backyard and start fondling their guns. There are usually 3 or 4 apiece from handguns to semi-automatic rifles. (These guys cant understand why I dont join in.) Then they start firing up the hill into the forrest.. All the while they keep drinking.
Guns and alcohol are not a good combination.
Thankfully, there are no homes up the mountain (extremely rural area) so there arent any people. But we always leave before their gunplay begins.

(32,234 posts)I've lived in quite a few places over the years, but not one of them allowed this sort of idiotic mishandling of a firearm. "Adams' property lacked a suitable backstop for shooting"? I mean, what the fuck? I hope this moron spends the rest of his life in prison---and that his rights to Red Bull usage are severely curtailed.

(35,004 posts)This guy and millions of others are way too stupid to be handling deadly weapons. It's really disturbing.
I wish there could at least be questions to get some of these people to think critically about how they intend to use their weapon.
I just don't understand how womens' rights could be questioned and then taken away but nothing similar has happened with regard to guns when fully sentient human beings are being slaughtered every day.
Why no pre-purchase questions to get people to critically think? Why no waiting periods? Even if there will be no registrations or IQ or psychological tests, why not require basic safety training?
