In my heart of hearts, I hope that Trump and MAGAt Moses Mikey and Thune and the rest of the "Republican Party" (a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Trump Organization) get their asses kicked in a mind-boggling fashion next November.
But talk is cheap, and if past...November 2024...is prologue, we have our "GET OUT THE VOTE" work cut out for us.
I wish I could explain WHY, in 2020, voters FELT that "sense of urgency" that got them out to the polls, and then did NOT in 2024.
And yeah...we don't know why Trump "thanked" Musk for "being so good with election system computers." We probably never will, AND, 74,327,659 Americans DID show up to vote for Kamala Harris.
We needed more voters then, and we're gonna need more next year. But KUDOS to the people who DID THE RIGHT THING.
IMAGINE what we could do with a Democratic Congress (and a Democrat in the White House in January 2029).
But it's all wishin' and not fishin' if people DON'T VOTE.
I do not mean to be negative or a pessimist. My only frame of reference is November 2024 and we MUST DO BETTER next year. People staying home will NOT free America of the MAGAt curse.

2. #1 done to obscure and divert attention from the real issues with our election system. (e.g.: insufficient use and/or auditing of voter-verified paper ballots, voter suppression)

(21,589 posts)The way I'll get past the 90,000,000 not voting is if history doesn't repeat itself.
The task, I guess, is to make sure that while Trump blames Biden for everything, all the way up to November 2026, is for us to unceasingly remind people that TRUMP'S HAD THE KEYS TO THE CAR SINCE JANUARY 20, 2025.
The pain that voters are feeling came directly from TRUMP.

(9,131 posts)What can we (those of us with no connection to money or power) do about the core problem of influence and gerrymandering that we have no control over and breaks our spirit? Is there an answer?

(21,589 posts)I don't need to "convince" anyone on DU, and it's the same way with my Facebook friends. The overwhelming majority of people I interact with on a daily basis know what's at stake.
And a big part of "welcoming the 90,000,000 back to the table" is not being too hard on them for sitting 2024 out. It's NEVER a good idea to try to "shame" people into doing ANYTHING.
THAT'S a challenge for me. THAT'S where my real work lies. Because I do think we got Trump for two reasons.
1). The MAGAts wanted it for all four years of Biden's term, so they needed NO "convincing," and
2). I don't think we can just dismiss 90,000,000 people taking the day off.
And no, I'm not factoring in any conspiracy theories about what Musk and others may have done to "influence" the results.
So my task, as I see it, is to keep reinforcing the importance of VOTING.

(18,235 posts)our overconfidence because we have honorable candidates leaves us losing when the media is stacked against us, many voters are swayed by lies told by republicans, and we think fighting fairly is going to win against the war the GOP has waged against Democracy.

(4,962 posts)-Get new voters?
-Convince previous voters to vote Democratic?
Those two are huge and as of right now, I'm far from convinced that will be the case because the "sloth approach" won't cut it.
-Will there be massive shenanigans affecting the outcome? How much will they affect the outcome?

(3,335 posts)People staying home are by definition not Democrats, since the only objective way to determine who is and who is not a Democrat is who does and who does not actually vote Democratic.
Woulda coulda shoulda doesn't get it, regardless of the cause - whether it is Nader, Stein, apathy, etc.
A Democratic Congress is no guarantee of anything. "We don't have the seats!!" never stops Republicans from advancing their agenda. It is just an excuse.
Nothing will ever take the place of aggressively fighting for the have-nots, the 80% who have been left behind, fighting with the same level of ferocity and determination that the right wingers bring to the battle.
