---EMERGENCY ALERT!--- Someone PLEASE get the BUM OINTMENT for right wingers raging over Mamdani's wife's boots!

MAGA fans took a brief pause Thursday from bashing New York City's new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, to heap criticism on his wife, who appeared to wear artisan leather boots worth over $600 to his official overnight swearing-in.

The New York Post, owned by News Corp, the media company controlled by Rupert Murdoch and his family, homed in on $630 Shelley Boots sported by Rama Duwaji, writing that her choice appeared to be at odds with the Democratic Socialist's affordability message.

"But her high-end fashion statement — which came as she stood next to Mamdami while he took the oath of office just after midnight — is out of touch, considering Hizzoner’s equity-for-all policies that include tax hikes on the rich along with his man-of-the-people air, some observers slammed," the report said.

+Mamdani's repeated vows to focus on affordability for all fell on deaf ears in MAGA world, which bashed his wife over the choice.

girlfriends wear wranglers and boots/hats that look like they've owned/worn them for decades. Meanwhile, the folks buying at Murdoch's or other western stores nearby and shelling out the $$ are decidedly... not. But, they like the look, so more power to them. East meets West when the western saddled teen barrel-racers meet the English dressage riders as sometimes happens at horse shows... LOL

My family raised quarter horses in Kansas... we also participated in parades and other events with matching outfits, etc.

The cost, even back in the 1970s, was astronomical. I can't even imagine what these groups spend today on such things.

Everyone has a hobby. I have a friend that spends 1000s on model train setups.

most of us could own something like that. Me, too, though the pointy toes and 3-d trapezoid-like heels (that look like an invitation to be broken off at the first set of stairs) would never be on my list. But, designer, I know. To each his/her own...

Maybe $200 on markdown for a sturdy pair of dress ankle boots.
I want boots I can wear for years. I have a sweet pair of 2" Cordoba red colored leather pumps with a cutout toe box pattern from the 1940's I just resoled and the leather re-furbished for my daughter to wear at parties or dress-up days at work. $50 for the work at an old shoe repair/tailor shop, the cobbler said they were a joy to work with, they were so well made.
Three generations have worn that pair of shoes; at a standard size 8M, they fit my grandmother, were just a titch big for me, and they fit my daughter perfectly.
And if she takes care of them, one of her daughters might be able to wear them, or another granddaughter. That's what a good shoe is worth.

As for price of boots - sturdy, good leather steel toe industrial boots start here in CA around $225. Not your Walmart Timberline clones that fall apart in 8 months boots, good ones like I had that lasted 10 years of heavy duty shipyard work before I got injured -and gave them away to a co-worker whose Walmart specials wore out again

They'd bitch about low class political liability spouse if Mamdani 's wife wore cheap Temu boots that would only last a couple days.

nothing special. Hell, this is a big deal for her and she deserves to splurge on an outfit that makes her feel good.
I'm looking for a dress for my son's wedding and will probably spend about. $1000 before I'm done ...outfit, wrap, shoes, purse, accessories...hair, mani-pedi

She feels good?
Well, good for her.

Do they expect her to wear a house-dress and crocs?

So what’s the outrage on the cost of a pair of boots?

His wife seems to have a thing for boots. She even wore them on her wedding day. Personally, I think those boots are ugly and look really uncomfortable, but it’s really none of my business - or theirs.

Richard Nixon got himself into a tizzy defending her, saying she had just an ordinary cloth coat, nothing fancy, and she never would wear anything too fancy.

Man, who knew those would end up being the "good old days"?

Since then, it seems it's the Republicans who like to drag down Democrats for having anything decent to wear, even when it was bought with money they earned, not by digging it out of the people's money. Like Trump does. If they'd worn something from the Salvation Army they would have gotten torn apart for mocking poor people. If they pay for something better they get torn apart. You can't win with these MAGA idiots. You never will.

I figure within a day or so they're going to point out she's wearing $25 lipstick...because, you know, you can get lipstick for $2.50 in the bargain bin at the drugstore.

What they don't seem to realize is a $600 pair of boots is probably going to last twenty years if she keeps them polished and has the soles redone when they need it, and $25 lipstick doesn't need to be reapplied every hour. By the time you're done you'll save money by purchasing quality stuff because it lasts longer.
