I think this is why every time he speaks he defaults to ranting about a few specific things, like how the election was stolen or everyone loves his ballroom, because these are the few things he can actually still remember.
He literally is clueless about an election for which he endorsed a candidate YESTERDAY............
Q: In Texas, a Democrat won a special election in an area you won by 17 points. Your reaction?

TRUMP: I don't know. I didn't hear about it. Somebody ran -- where?
Q: In Texas
TRUMP: I'm not involved. You mean I won by 17, and this person lost? Things like that happen. I'm not on the ballot

(17,840 posts)straightforward question, thinking he'd actually won by 17 points. Trump's mindless gibberish is no longer newsworthy.

(804 posts)It was an area he won by 17 points, and he goes on to say that you never know if that's transferable.
Now, I think the fact that he really was oblivious to the outcome of the race speaks to the fact that other people in the White house are both afraid to give him bad news--and possibly tired of explaining why it's bad news--and they are the ones putting out at least some of his social media posts as if they are from him.
It's not too much to demand that a president of the US actually know what is put out as if it came from him. Faux Nuse would demand that from a Democratic administration--and for good reason: what the president says can start wars and tank financial markets. Putting things out from a White House account would be fine, but having people putting things out as if they are the actual president is something else entirely.
Which is really the worst part about this iteration of the Republican Party: they don't care--not about democracy; not about corruption; not about tradition; not about anything including "America".

(27,749 posts)If it's advantageous for him to remember it, or if it's a perceived slight, he remembers. If it's advantageous for him to deny something, he will say he forgot it or doesn't know it, then he can make up shit to suit him. Almost invariably, if he says he doesn't know, he's--you guessed it--LYING.

(32,575 posts)It's not linear. Or even on a sustained curve. It's all over the map.
Combine the two, psychopathy and dementia. That's the picture we're facing.

(2,188 posts)it has been since the last dose of whatever bug juice the are giving him to keep him minimally functional.
Playing stupid is his fall back position any time he is presented with something that is uncomfortable for him.
I don't think his attention span is such that he could possibly produce a long text. The sample text is far too comprehensible to have been penned by Trumps.

I think it's more evidence that he's a flailing figurehead.
I don't think he forgot about that special election. I think it's far more likely he never knew about.
