Idiot glee is a dangerous thing. And not just for the idiots.

. . .So, while the right-wing cult is ecstatic that they’re destroying democracy here, they’re destroying our constitutional republic, too. And they’re very proud of themselves for it. They seem to think they’re destroying “socialism”, which is what they apparently believe democracy is, even though it very much is not.

Marxist socialism, which they screech about constantly, does not exist in the US. It never has and it never will. We have a tiny bit of democratic socialism here (social security, VA, Medicare), which people really love and would be very angry if it were taken away. But we do not have “communist” or Marxist socialism here at all.

MAGAs can’t distinguish between communist socialism and democratic socialism, or more likely choose not to, because the cult would oust them for even trying to make any distinction. Willful ignorance is de rigueur for MAGA.

I call their rabid excitement about destroying their own country (whether it’s called a democracy or a republic) “idiot glee” - like the dope who sits there sawing off the branch upon which his butt (and everyone else’s butts) are perched.

You can’t accuse them of overthinking it.
