The U.S. has added approximately $33 trillion in federal debt over the last 25 years...
When Clinton left office in January of 2001, the U.S. national debt sat at approximately $5.75 trillion. We'd actually had a quarter that returned a surplus. There was talk of eliminating the national debt altogether and being able to pay for grand plans - Like healthcare for all. And then came W and his tax cuts for the wealthy, wasted trillions on two wars and leaving the nation in deep recession and, later, complete fiscal mismanagement under Trump I. It is phenomenal to think that the entirety of the $33 trillion debt amassed over the last 25 years was either directly or indirectly tied to the mismanagement of only two Republican Presidents, W and Trump. Where does the debt clock stop by the time Trump's second term ends? $45 trillion? $50 trillion? Lost in all of Trump's insanity is this very real threat of federal fiscal implosion under a man who, in his personal and business life, never saw an organization he didn't view as something worthy of bankrupting. And, the craziest part of it all is that I haven't seen a comprehensive plan put together by either party to address the debt. Yes, our Democracy is currently in peril. But, if we save our Union only to see it go bankrupt, what will we have accomplished?
