Stryker (Medical Technology) headquarters in Portage Michigan closes amid cyber attack affecting global systems UPDATED

Last edited Wed Mar 11, 2026, 04:47 PM - Edit history (2)

Oddly, the title on Hacker News said "Medical technology company in Michigan hit by suspected Iran-linked cyberattack" when there was no mention of Iran in the article, nor from Stryker itself.

PORTAGE, Mich. Stryker's Global Headquarters in Portage closed on Wednesday as the company deals with a cyber attack.

FOX 17 learned Stryker fell victim to the attack, which is wiping phones and computers tied to the company's systems, according to Portage Public Safety.

A Stryker spokesperson confirmed it was targeted through its Microsoft suite of technology which disrupted its networks in facilities across the world. The company said it has contained the situation, noting no evidence of ransomware or malware has been found.

The scope of the impact was still being evaluated as of Wednesday afternoon. Stryker said it was continuing to support customers and partners through the cyber attack.

Stryker is experiencing a global network disruption to our Microsoft environment as a result of a cyber attack. We have no indication of ransomware or malware and believe the incident is contained.

Our teams are working rapidly to understand the impact of the attack on our systems.

Stryker has business continuity measures in place to continue to support our customers and partners. We are committed to transparency and will keep stakeholders informed as we know more.

WAS IT IRAN?

The Mirror reports multiple global attacks by Iranian hackers.

Apparently a hacker group 'Handala hackers'

The hackers say they targeted Stryker in retaliation for US bombing of all-girls school in Iran. They say they have wiped more that 200,000 Stryker systems, servers, and mobile devices and stole 50 terabytes of critical data, forcing Stryker offices in 79 countries to shut down

but yes, the heavy equipment showed up in an image search.

This is the medical outfit.

Hackers will hit any vulnerability they find. Not sure if they are getting more strategic.

This one seems just purely destructive as opposed to ransomware attacks.

He was the head of orthopedics at the hospital. My dad took me to the hospital after breaking my leg ski jumping. It was a Sunday afternoon and everyone had left and he was about to go home. He was kind of a big wig, even then, but he said he would take care of me. Years later, I worked in that same hospital as a student nurse and then later as a graduate nurse on the orthopedic word. That was all before he became a billionaire with his invention of products for hospital patients.

I ran into physics Nobel Prize winners.

Surprise, my undergrad physics advisor, Alan Cormack, co-won a Nobel Prize for CAT scan technology.

Later, working on staff at Cal Berkeley, I met a bunch.

I seem to be a lucky charm FOR OTHERS.

Oh well. We have interesting stories to tell. Thanks!

Good friend works there. Phone wiped. Laptop wiped. All operations halted. A $130 Billion company dead in the water. They have customers and patient all over the world. Scary stuff.

Friend has no idea when they’ll be back up and running. Even if that’s this week they’re going to be set back for months.

Only for the millions of victims who suffer from its incredibly poor and easily attacked code.

It is criminally poor.

Nadella is crying his eyes out. On the way to the bank.

If there is a common thread, that would be it.

I hate to see this. Stryker is a good company.
