I just discovered that the green leaves on strawberries are edible

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Emile (a host of the General Discussion forum).

I used to pull them off. They create a nice contrast to the sweetness of the red part of the strawberry. Plus it so mush easier and less messy to put the whole thing in your mouth. Apparently the green part is very nutritious.

Unfortunately I am allergic to strawberries. Maybe I should buy them just for the leaves?

Two I discovered last year are the leaves of lemon balm which also make a great evening tea, and pumpkin and squash leaves, though I like them when they're green not late season.

Why have tea when you can eat the leaf and get the additional fiber.

strawberries and black & rasberries make great teas. Both are a part of Haudenosaunee culture.

On the other hand, reports that kale is edible are lies straight from the pits of hell.

I like it lightly stir fried in olive oil and garlic. I can't even taste the kale.

sauteed them in butter with some garlic.... I wouldn't say they were 'amazing'
but they were pretty ok--- just had a mild flavor of greens, with no hint of "radish"...

Also, the leaves of broccoli and cauliflower can be eaten---

The first year I tried growing those, it they got too hot and went to seed without forming heads,
so I harvested some of the leaves as a substitute for lettuce in my burritos...
those were very satisfactory for that purpose!

I've never seen leaves on a strawberry, outside of the actual plant. (The whole plant is edible - but your description sounds like you are talking about the least green crown attached directly to the berry)
