Chief Justice John Roberts on Tuesday said that personal criticism of judges is dangerous and urged prominent figures to dial down the rhetoric just days after President Donald Trump launched his most recent broadside against the Supreme Court.
Roberts, the head of the federal judiciary, said in public remarks at Rice University in Houston that critiques of the substance of Supreme Court rulings are part of the job but that some more pointed comments have gone too far. He did not mention Trump specifically.
"The problem sometimes is that the criticism can move from a focus on legal analysis to personalities. And you see from all over, I mean, not just any one political perspective on it, that it's more directed in a personal way, and that, frankly, can be actually quite dangerous," Roberts said.
"Personally directed hostility is dangerous and has got to stop," he added.

The words and actions of each human person in any public office are worthy of individual and specific critique -- including their origins/motives. That is inherently personal. If he doesn't like that he can resign/retire.

(15,803 posts)there is a simple solution: resign.
Youve already ruined the country; your work is done. So pat yourselves on the back and stop actively making things worse.

And he doesn't like it.
Simply being a dispassionate arbiter of law & not a political zealot could gave prevented this. But, he brought it on himself.

Appearing on MS NOW Monday, former Palm Beach County state attorney Dave Aronberg claimed Pirro has every intention of running to the nations highest court for relief.
But he warned it will not be forthcoming.
On Friday, a furious Pirro shouted at reporters, By inserting himself and preventing the grand jury from even obtaining let alone hearing evidence he [Boasberg] has neutered the grand jury's ability to investigate crime.
According to Aronberg, Pirros saber-rattling combined with Donald Trumps attacks on Powell on social media will make it hard for the DOJ to get a sign-off to proceed from the nations highest court.
Trump was literally hoisted with his own petard, to use a Shakespeare reference, especially because yesterday was the ides of March, Aronberg told the hosts.....
But in that tariff ruling recently, Chief Justice Roberts seemed like he's lost some patience with Trump, and he didn't give the president anywhere near the deference he gave him in the immunity ruling, he went on. And so, I think, this ruling will hold up on appeal, especially because you've seen other rulings by the Supreme Court that show that they put the Fed in a unique place, a special bubble that protects them.

(23,680 posts)The guy that Roberts personally bent over backwards to save his political career with an absolute immunity ruling that every legal scholar said was an utterly absurd and meritless case before it even got to SCOTUS, thus shutting down numerous criminal cases and ultimately resulting in said person becoming president and wreaking havoc on the entire globe?
Or someone else?
