Do I have this right? Now the state of Ohio is giving cigarettes to people on welfare?
My grandson was telling me all he had to do was get his doctor to fill out a form declaring him addicted to Nicotine, which is a drug. Since drug addiction is a covered illness, Medicaid will issue a carton of cigarettes while they work to recover.
I didn't believe him but he gave this pack to me. Actually, he made me pay for them but I think that's illegal. They aren't very good cigarettes but they're free.
He said the 100s length are called Welfare Queens.

(4,560 posts)Back in 2015 Gov. Mike DeWine started a program for Ohio farmers that were going broke to grow tobacco for export. But then when trump started his tariff BS the farmers got stuck with the tobacco. To appease the angry farmers DeWine made a deal with RJ Reynolds who would make the cigarettes but not sell them because the tobacco quality was inconsistent. So the state of Ohio had to pay for the cigarettes to be made and then find a way to distribute them. Long story short, the easiest way to dump them was to distribute them through assistance programs. In Ohio, DeWine had the unflattering nickname Bum since he got into politics. And the term for getting a free cigarette in Ohio became "Bumming a smoke." Most people think that expression's been around since the mid-20th century, but it's only a couple years old. It's called the Mandela Effect.

(20,882 posts)It's a lot of fun compiling the artwork and printing onto a pattern. Then fold & glue.
I had a lot of fun with the Welfare Kings. Of course everyone here knows that's an April Fools joke, but it's different when you hold them in your hand it's harder to deny the story. I had people getting upset and taking pictures because the government was coddling poor people with cigarettes. I think they were jealous. haha
These used to be fun when we smoked in bars. Next is going to be "Medical Tobacco".

I had a lot of fun making the Welfare Kings. They aren't AI, you can hold them in your hand, so they fool a lot of people who don't think poor people should be smoking on their dime.
Next will be "Medical Tobacco". This is the age of irony

(53,206 posts)I'm reminded of a Cheech and Chong skit... "no stems, no seeds that you don't need, Acapulco Gold is bad-ass weed."
Given that, if you got some seeds in your cigarette how would you tell? Tobacco seed looks like dust.
