PA Primary - This may not mean anything. But then again it might.

In the Pennsylvania Primary Governor's race, both tickets were uncontested. However, there was a contested race for Lieutenant Governor on the Republican side. There was a special election in a deep red district in York County which the Republican won by just 12%. In 2024, Democrats didn't even field a candidate in this district.

Anyway, primary's are closed in PA meaning yiu can only vote in the Primary for the party you are registered to. The total voters in the Democratic Primary was just shy of 1.1 million. The total in the Republican Primary was less than 650,000. That's a difference of about 450,000 in the Democrats favor.

There were a relatively small number of contested races across all levels (US House, State General Assembly & State Senate). There are 4 House races in PA which are considered toss ups in November. One of those races, the 8th District was uncontested on both sides. The Democratic candidate got over 58,000 votes. The Republican, less than 38,000. In the other Districts, the Democratic primary was contested but only nominally so in 2 of those districts. In those Districts Democratic votes outnumbered Republicans by 35,000 and 17,000. In the one truly contested race, Democratic voters outnumbered Republicans by about 28,000 votes.

Given the lack of contested races on both sides, it's dangerous to read too much into the results. But it certainly appears there was much more enthusiasm for voting on the Democratic side yesterday, than for Republicans.
