Do you think her badmouthing Hillary was negative? Would Hillary have had a better outcome if Susan kept her personal opinions to herself instead of using her celerity platform to promote her own issues?

"Did she really say that Hillary was more dangerous than Trump?"
'Not exactly, but I dont mind that quote, (Sarandon) says. I did think she was very, very dangerous. We would still be fracking, we would be at war [if she was president]. It wouldnt be much smoother. Look what happened under Obama that we didnt notice.'

Who can tell the influence of her opinions. Sarandon is known to be outspoken.
I'm sure she didn't do Hillary any good. And her ambiguous statement about President Obama is downright insulting to these Democratic ears.
Thanks for your post BigmanPigman. Food for thought.

and dont forget Jill Stein comey, and the sexist anti-Hilary MSM.
In every critical swing state Hillary lost by less than 1% while Jill Stein received 1% of the vote in those critical swing states.
It didnt take much.

(98,514 posts)Following the election Sarandon eventually supported and voted for Green candidate Jill Stein the actress has taken quite a bit of heat from the center-left over her refusal to support Clinton and her insistence that a Trump presidency wouldnt have been much worse than Hillarys. In another interview with Hayes in February, she said Trumpselection made people more awake and involved. Meanwhile, in an April appearance on The Late Show, she echoed those sentiments, stating that people are more energized with him in office.
Well, a recent interview with The Guardian is sure to further raise the ire of moderates, Democrats and Clinton supporters. Why? Oh, just because Sarandon said that Clinton is extremely dangerous and would have led the country into war.

She is an asshole, why are we even talking about a woman that trashed our Democratic candidate and in the end voted for a Russian asset by the name of Jill Stein.
Here she is dining with Putin.

(11,128 posts)But she gave a famous face and focus for people who really wanted to yell about the Bernie Bros. She just made for a convenient locus for the ire.
I think she rubbed some Boomers the wrong way. She's kind of more their thing. And of course, being a woman, she gets that extra target on her back. Just like how Gillibrand single-handedly brought down Al Franken and no man within 1,000 miles of Washington had any kind of opinions on that.
It's just people needing a villain, and women make for better villains.
No one under 50 was hanging on Susan Sarandon's political opinions. People can't accept that in 2016, people didn't really live with Hillary Clinton the same way anymore. They didn't come up with her. They didn't watch her in the 90s. They only really knew her as probably the most privileged white woman in the world at a time when progressives involved with intersectionality were really interrogating that privilege. She was a big meh for a lot of people. But the people who have been invested in her for decades and strongly identified with her biography just could not - and still cannot - perceive that she was no longer viewed in that same deferential way by younger generations.
There was a generational divide on the hagiography that came to the fore in 2016.
Which is why Sarandon being the villain is really funny. There are so many reasons that election went pear-shaped, and I don't think I'd put an elderly former actress in the top 100 there. Like there was an army of twentysomething men roaming around, "Susan Sarandon said what?! Shit, that's all you had to say!"

I don't think she's very popular in Hollywood. I recall her whining about it once.

(11,379 posts)There are a lot of commenters replaying everything she said and did in that time period, but as far as her so-called "influence on voters" is concerned, the real question becomes, who was really listening to what she said and did? How many people were following her, and forming their opinions based on her? How many voters did she sway?
I would contend that it was very few, excepting perhaps those directly in her real world interactions. IRL for me at least, no one was talking about her or her opinion. She was just another celebrity, being a celebrity with a political candidate. "Oh yea, wasn't she in Bull Durham?"

(49,023 posts)The candidate wins or they lose. But that loss or win has nothing to do with a celebrity saying something about them. It's their campaign. They get the votes or they don't.

(29,317 posts)President Obama was going to start WWIII and empire build, killed innocent children with drone weapons, had a kill list. Hillary was a dangerous Warhawk who'd start WWIII two seconds after inauguration, Tulsi called her the Queen of the Warmongers personifying the rot of the Democratic Party and Sarandon that Hillary was more dangerous than Trump. Genocide Joe and Killer Kamala.
Not just about Sarandon, Tulsi, it's popular propaganda used to decrease support for Democrats. It works and we see Israel used to bash Democrats all the time. Next election will be AIPAC AIPAC genocide genocide genocide. Republicans don't have to lift a finger.

Fuck her and anyone who supports that mindset.

(3,669 posts)This is a dead horse. The right-wing attack machine is deep and real -- let's talk about Facebook, Fox, Q-Anon, insane right-wing echo-chamber groups, the whole billionaire network, even the tabloid smears Trump's friend David Pecker had placed next to every supermarket checkout line in America. If you want to find how they did it, those are your culprits. Look there.
