"I'm just going to make an observation and that is for a year and a half we've been hearing ICE and DHS say things are false then they turn out to be true. I don't know how much longer they expect the public to believe them."Later in the story Houston Mayor John Whitmire (D) said he has asked the federal government to share their evidence and "they are tightly controlling" it. He has reached out to them and asked them to share it.
Very hard hitting story.

(26,194 posts)So, since my expectations were so low I was kind of blown away by his statement. However, one thing I have noticed. He can and does occasionally hit the administration hard. But he refrains from personally attacking trump.

(8,510 posts)He won't go after Trump but repeatedly attacked Biden. He did the same with Obama.

(2,916 posts)They constantly use their "dog whistle" wording. Blame Biden, Hillary, Bill Clinton, hell they are still even blaming Carter.....
And they are nearing elections, so of course, expect their normal, election year rhetoric......Gays/Guns/God,
Along with their classical.............. (works every single time,)......."OCTOBER SURPRISE" two weeks before the election.......

(352 posts)For your comment - Tapper forever lost any credibility IMO, by claiming that the Biden Administration playing down his age was the biggest threat to democracy

(33,475 posts)calling him "The Democratic Mayor Who Thinks Cities Are Handling Trump Wrong". In the interview, the mayor emphasized his focus on local issues instead of criticizing Trump: "I dont respond to Trump that could be counterproductive. Do I have personal views? Sure, and theyre strong, but why do you want to challenge him?"
Reporter J. David Goodman wrote, "With rhetoric escalating over immigration raids and National Guard troop deployments, Mayor Whitmire is betting that the best way to govern a large American city right now is to keep your head down."
This was in October 2025.

(26,194 posts)about how to deal with him, although asking for transparency is not really all that "out there" of a request. Anyway, at this point he probably wants to stand up for his constituent.

(7,136 posts)Now you are shocked at Trump's Freikorps going fascist and authoritarian things? Your self-righteous indignation is pathetic.

(14,945 posts)Literally you could make up anything you want and have exactly the same accuracy and chance of being truthful. And the same chance of Republicans believing what you say or acting on it.

(26,194 posts)I thought he laid it out pretty well. Basically said DHS is lying, has a history of lying, and how can people believe them? Thought it was worth pointing out.

(14,945 posts)Report what they do, sure. But their words are not worth reporting. They are not news.

(5,066 posts)A paramilitary group with inadequate to no training runs around terrorizing communities while breaking the law and refusing to cooperate in municipalities where law and order are still followed. The mayor should have known about this stonewalling from the events in Minnesota, but his first impulse was to step aside and let the wolves investigate the wolves. I don't know. Maybe he didn't have many options. But why would he have fewer options than Mary Moriarty, Hennepin Co, Minnesota DA who is pursuing investigations into ICE killings?

(14,753 posts)And the fact that is the reality we live in is all part of the horror of it all.
But there are countless people fighting the insanity every single minute of every single day.
I believe this is the last gasp and a horrific culmination of a 45 year-long project to end our liberal democracy that is essentially a racist, soulless, corporatist "backlash" against progress made in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
But the thing is, I think the backlash against the current insanity will be so, so, so much more powerful -- and so, so, so much faster.
