An Alabama lawmaker wants to repeal the requirement for a permit to carry a concealed handgun.

Sen. Gerald Allen, R-Tuscaloosa, has pre-filed a bill to end a requirement that he said is an improper limit on the constitutional right to bear arms, according to a news release.

"It's time we give our citizens the right to bear arms without first seeking the government's permission," Allen said.

Alabama already allows people to openly carry a holstered pistol without a permit. Allen said there is no logical reason to continue the permit requirement for carrying a concealed pistol.

"No logical reason ..." Oh, I'm sure he's an expert on logic.

gun store and get mom and dad a gun. Why don't we get a bus load of violent criminals and take them to the gun store and just hand them any gun they want? I have an even better idea, how about when we release people from prison we give them a gun for starting their new life?

or the prohibition on felons having a gun or the NICS buyers check. I don't live in Alabama, but I have family there. The permit is redundant.
