DNC receives proposed bylaws from Alabama Democratic Party

The Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee said Friday they have received revised bylaws and membership lists from the Alabama Democratic party.

Minyon Moore, co-chair of the committee, said during a meeting of the committee that the proposals had been given to committee members, along with challenges.

“In the meantime, the staff will continue to work with the party and the challengers to see the October resolution through,” she said.

The State Democratic Executive Committee, the governing body of the party, voted in May to abolish the youth, LGBTQ+ and disability caucuses while weakening the party’s Native American, Hispanic and Asian and Pacific Islander caucuses.

After complaints from party members, including Alabama Democratic Party Vice Chair Tabitha Isner, the DNC opened an investigation. In October, the DNC ordered the party to develop new bylaws by the end of November. The state party has submitted draft bylaws that restore most of the diversity caucuses, but not one for those with disabilities.

The state party must vote on the proposed bylaws by Feb. 1.
