Black protesters removed from Birmingham Trump rally sue campaign and convention center

Two black protesters, who were attacked by Donald Trump supporters at a rally inside the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Center last year as the candidate urged them on, have filed a lawsuit against Trump and the center.

"The BJCC and the Trump campaign must be held responsible for failing to provide the required leadership during the Donald Trump rally and the required security," the lawsuit states. "Moreover, Trump's intentional acts of inciting violence cannot be allowed from anyone much less a candidate for the Presidency of the United States."

The lawsuit, filed in federal court, likens the attack by the white Trump supporters at the November 2015 rally to attacks on blacks during the violent 1960s Civil Rights protests just blocks from where the Birmingham convention center stands. "It is shocking to see that a rally at the BJCC, a publicly funded facility, black residents were brutally attacked by a white mob," the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit states video of last year's attack has been submitted to the court. "The footage of the attack is a reflection of Birmingham's ugly racist past, a past where blacks are routinely set upon and beaten by angry mobs," the lawsuit states.
