Nancy Grace Analoak went to jail for the first time last week, and died four days later.

Analoak, a disabled woman who lived in group homes, was at the Alaska Native Medical Center Wednesday night when she was arrested for hitting a nurse, according to charging documents in the criminal case against her.

The 47-year-old was booked into jail that night.

On Sunday morning, less than four days later, she was found dead in her cell at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center in Eagle River, the Alaska Department of Corrections said.

What a terrible thing to happen. I have a niece who may need to be institutionalized eventually and I fear for her when that happens. She is also Native American and I fear for this group of people, perhaps more than other minorities.

9. She should NEVER have been arrested in the first place.

If she has a child's mind, she probably didn't even understand that she did anything wrong.

A staff member should have spoken with her, explained that it was wrong to hit. But call the police ? File a "criminal" complaint ?

Does anyone practice common sense anymore ?
