A protest in downtown Anchorage Monday night urging people to sign an application to recall Alaskas governor was lightly attended. The political news website The Midnight Sun tweeted a rally participant count of 19. KTVA reported more than two dozen protesters.
Former Republican U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller is leading an effort to oust Gov. Bill Walker over his veto to cut Alaskans Permanent Fund Dividend checks in half. Its spawned the website recallgovwalker.com and the Facebook page Recall Gov Bill Walker.
People depend on the PFD. We live in a state where the cost of living is 25 percent higher than other states. People use that PFD for their heat bill. Weve had people write us that they might not be able to get medical care that they need, or their children wont be able to buy school clothes, Miller said during a phone interview Monday before the protest.
Theres just an extensive list of injuries that people are going to be sustaining as a consequence of what the governor has done, he continued.

(4,940 posts)Irony? I agree with him on this. If Walker wanted to "fix" the "crisis", he wouldn't be giving billions of dollars in tax abatement to the big oil companies that operate here.
A single week's profit (net, not gross) for BP/ExxonMobile/etc. exceeds many country's annual net.
And no, they won't go running away with their tails between their legs - we have the product. No more giveaways? Fiscal problem solved.

(23,024 posts)Funny how that works for Republicans. They say that Democratic candidates promise their constituents free goodies that they haven't earned. Yet now, Alaskan Joe Miller is upset that the checks Alaskans received during the oil boom should continue even though the price of Alaskan crude has plummeted.
Mr. Miller, that's called the free market. If you lived in the reality-based world, you'd understand that your checks for all these years were nothing more than the socialistic policies that you say you hate.
Republicans are hypocritical idiots.
