Elon Musk's canvassing operation sued in California for alleged labor law violations
Source: The Guardian
Elon Musks troubled canvassing operation on behalf of Donald Trump and the Republican party is now facing a lawsuit in southern California filed by two women who say they were cheated out of wages and expenses as they knocked on doors for an embattled Republican congresswoman.
The suit accuses Musks America Pac, which has poured more than $100m into this years election campaign, of willful violations of the California labor code by paying the plaintiffs less than it promised and refusing to make up the difference.
The women, Tamiko Anderson and Patricia Kelly, say they were hired last month and promised an hourly wage about $25, according to their lead lawyer to help turn out votes for Michelle Steel, who represents a closely contested swing district in Orange county, south of Los Angeles.
It was only once the women started working, the suit alleges, that they found out they were being paid instead by the number of houses they visited. The suit further alleges that they were not reimbursed for work-related expenses, including the use of personal cellphones to track their movements along their designated routes.

As an OC supervisor, Michelle Steel awarded a $1.2M pandemic meals contract to her campaign mail printer.

(10,706 posts)No doubt the principal contracts require compliance with CA law - so misconduct gives America PAC an excuse not to pay the subcontractor - under contract law.

(54,070 posts)And these two women need to win their lawsuit against Musk.
I live in Orange County next to the district Michelle Steel is running in. Our purple district has its own tight Congressional race between anti-abortion loon Scott Baugh and Dem Dave Min. Of course Baugh's ads, which are flooding TV, don't even mention abortion and just bash Min, a former law professor, for being "soft on crime."
I had a young black man come knocking on my door asking if I had voted, and I said yes, and since I had a Harris flag flying from my house, it was obvious who I had voted for. He didn't really seem to care, he was just glad I answered the door, he looked exhausted. I bet he was part of the Musk operation and just trying to get his door knock quota. He was able to tick off an actual contact with me.
