Police Investigate NYC 'Wanted' Posters of Finance Executives

Source: Bloomberg

The New York Police Department is investigating a number of ‘WANTED’ posters of senior executives that have been hung in parts of Manhattan. The posters included images of insurance leaders including UnitedHealth Group Inc.’s Brian Thompson, who was murdered last Wednesday, as well as executives from financial firms. The posters of Thompson were crossed out with a red X.

It’s the latest development among a string of incidents causing anxiety among business leaders in the wake of the fatal shooting of Thompson. In addition to the posters, police are aware of a surge in online threats against executives, according to an NYPD spokesman.

Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old charged with Thompson’s murder, was found with a manifesto condemning high profits of the health care industry, saying “these parasites simply had it coming.”

The NYPD has said it’s on alert for “a risk that a wide range of extremists may view Mangione as a martyr and an example to follow,” according to a law enforcement document reviewed by Bloomberg. “Rhetoric may signal an elevated threat facing executives in the near-term.”

and in NYC because of a Wall St/corporate event. Moving your company won't change the fact that sometimes you need to do corporate events in NYC because of Wall St.

I'd be worried about copycat crimes especially with these posters being displayed

are breaking any real laws--maybe a nuisance ordinance posting on certain objects or private property, but... If Trump and his ilk's call-out of all his perceived enemies 24/7 is not illegal, despite the obvious risk posed to those targets, how can this be? (Devil's advocate only... I'm not condoning).

Think. Again.

....if they can spend time and money on things that might be "akin" to crimes.

"Because the posters, which echo the words etched on bullet casings found by Thompson, instill fear and are explicitly threatening in nature, they are “out of the realm of something that would constitute free speech and more akin to something that would be considered a crime,” Rebecca Weiner, deputy commissioner for intelligence and counterterrorism at the NYPD, said by phone." - from the article

These corporate lords sure do get top-notch treatment!

For posters. In NYC.

I think there are structures in NYC that would fall down if the layers of posters weren't holding them up.

Has been cozying up to the Trump administration, recently -- even apart from his having been more of a cop than a rethug-turned-Democrat for years now.

Don't these yahoos shoot up Obama and Biden targets at the gun range?

Are they gonna charge for wheatpasting?

If they're worried about illegal stickers and posted bills in NYC, they are gonna have to investigate nearly every stackable surface, no?
