The U.S. Supreme Court has once again rejected a bid to lift the gag order barring Donald Trump from making public statements about officials involved in the New York criminal hush-money case that saw the president-elect convicted on dozens of felony charges.
In a Monday order, the high court declined an application that sought to appeal the gag order set by Acting New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan. The application for stay addressed to Justice [Clarence] Thomas and referred to the Court is denied, the order states. There were no additional comments or explanations from the justices.
The emergency application to lift the gag order on Trump was filed pro se by a podcaster named Joseph Nierman, who goes by the name Good Lawgic. Nierman had initially filed the petition with Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the circuit justice who oversees requests from New York. Sotomayor in October rejected the request without comment.
Nierman then refiled the application to Thomas who referred it to the full court on Nov. 26, records show. The court then declined to take up the case.
